Started puting the trans back together this morning everything was going great but now having trouble reinstalling the guide bolts the one that goes into the horozontal slot on the front offset lever goes right in. the one on vertical slot on the shift lever will not line up 100% i can get it in but it binds everything up when it's in i cant move the shift rail at all it will go forward and back very stiff but no side to side at all . any tips?
If you can't get the LHS (vertical) in first, don't even bother trying the RHS because the engagement arms most likely have fallen off the shift lever. Go ahead and pull the case, clean the RTV, and start again..
Once you have it going back together, the RHS pin should go all the way in by hand (I like to set the shift rail engagement pin aligned with 3-4 arm, so you have the maximum lip on both sides for 1-2 and 5-6-R to rest on. Then the LHS pin should go in by hand by gently lifting up on the 5-6-R rail.

thanks Mike. ?Got it together now have to take it back apart to add RTV and front ofset lever (got tierd cleaning RTV LOL) now that i have it figured out i'll do it one last time with the RTV. once the housing is on and guide pins in can it fall out again or do the guide pins hold it all together till the tailshaft housing is on?
Are you sure the shift guide offset lever is in the correct rail hole? There's a second hole that was used in the 2pc offset lever/CAGS of the LT1 transmissions, but not used in the 1pc late model guide lever. If the trans is in neutral, the guide should be too..

thanks mike i got it all together and in the car . it goes in all the gears fine1-6 but reverse is a little harder for some reason. i'll se how it works once i get all the air out.
Cool deal.. Do you mean Rev is tough because of the lockout preventing the shifter access to the gate, or the synchro engagement once you're in the gate?
Rev is furthest out on the rail and can be tough engaging on the bench, but as long as it does engage and all the parts are properly installed on Rev (blocker ring spring, etc.), it should be ok in the car.

It's in the car. It's just harder to get it all the way to the right past 5-6 once it's l the way to the right it goes up into rev ok. This is without using the clutch with the eng. Off.
