If you are pushing ALOT of hp/tq and need to beef up every ounce of performance upgrade, I would recommend it (along with micro polishing all the internals) but T56 will take most of NA cars can dish out.

i was thinking if i made some kind of a lifting stand to bolt onto the case and try to slowly ease the counter shaft extension out.

Would this be okay?

Basically to plates with some box section or angled plate welded together with a top plate, and then sticking a puller onto the top plate and dropping the jaws to the top gear on the counter shaft extension.

I know it should just pull out but ive been trying for over an hour and getting no where all that seems to happen is that the case starts to lift.

I have broken something in 5th so i dont know if that go wedged somewhere making it even harder for me to remove the counter shaft extension. I have found bits of what looks like a synchro spring and also the fork pad on 5/6 looks missing on one side.

Just grab the end of the extension shaft and pull on it. The 5-6 fork and the 5-6 synchro ring will still be on the trans along with 6th gear but you'll have the extension shaft and 5th gear off.

ok got serious issues, the counter shaft extension will not budge at all. Ive had a few big people on it and it wont move.

I have removed the snap ring off the 5/6 fork and the shaft should slide off, correct?

Is there anything else thats need to be removed as it seriously wont move. I may have to look into getting another T56 box

I might try my puller idea but thats only because its a last ditch effort, i really want to sort this problem

yep, i got it out, used a slide hammer in the end with external jaw pullers. It looks like i destroyed a few bearings which is why it got stuck, but the shift fork pads were fine and looked like new.

I just need to finish stripping down the rest of the box and inspect the damage. Then its just a matter of buying new parts, installing them as per manual and guides on this forum, cross my fingers and hope it doesnt blow up.

Put some heat on that bitch. A small propane torch works great to loosen up the locktite on the T-40 bolt.
