tried with two washers, still notchy, must be my billet keys that made my transmission so notchy. Shifter also got some extra slop in it, will try with 1 washer later.

Just got done driving the car again 99 m6 ss with (hurst shifter)140,000 miles and I have no slop or anything but an easier shift. I guess some are different. Worth the time to check.

Pro 5.0 shifter with the recommended 2 washers. I used the washers specified in the write ups.

Part of the problem might be that my trans is built..? Maybe this only gives as good a result on the stock trans?

All I know is I gained zero smoothness. It was still notchy, just with percieved slop. Didnt like the feel at all. Ide rather have my mechanical tight feeling.

But its all preference and opinion. Like I said, its one bolt. Its easily reversable. The washers cost about $2 or something. I got them from Pepboys. They were on the shelf. So its a cheap and easy mod to try, that you can easily reverse and not be out a bunch of money. You dont even lose fluid out of the bolt hole...so its a clean job haha.

Yep, that "bolt" is actually a load capsule. The ball portion acts with a track on the shift rail linkage. By putting washers under the capsule,it is spaced out of the track. It does reduce the load but also increases the lash. When in gear or in the neitral plane, the shift **** will have a wallowing movement = sloppy feel. This is not an effective mod for a positive change.

I'm resurrecting this posts because I printed this off over a year ago, bought the 2 -20mm copper oil plug washers, and put them in my floorboard for when I finished my project. My Trans is totally stock, new castrol ATF dex III foreign car formula, and a brand new MGW shifter. I wanted to try the shifter first, and I was disappointed in the roughr feeling as I shifted. I have missed 6th twice, but I rarely drive the car, and it's been down for a year and a 8 months. I installed the 2 washers tonight, and WOW, what a difference. It's all personal about the feel, and it was cheap, so why not try it? I had to unbolt the crossmember to lower the Trans, it helped with my tools. I didn't like the notchy feeling before, now it feels like its good and "broke in". ( car has 7500 miles) Maybe drag racers won't like it, but for spirited driving, I give a 2 thumbs up.
