Question LS1 382 stroker / stock T56. Will it hold?

Hello everyone.

I'm currently in the process of getting a 382 stroker (mild cam, say +/- 430RWTQ). My goal is NOT to have an all out high-HP race car, but a good street car with plenty of low end torque.

My concern is the stock T56 tranny. Do you think it will hold that much torque?

The car is a daily driver that see the track 2 or 3 times a year (drag radials only).

Thanks!

other mods on their way:

Moser 12-bolts (3.73)
aftermarket clutch (?)
Heavy duty driveshaft (LPE 3.5 aluminum) + loop
SLP LT with cats
sub-frame connectors

You should be just fine, the the stock 10 bolt axle and clutch won't be, though. The T56 is one of the best manual transmissions ever offered in a production car. It's the stock trans in the 500 hp Viper. I've seen the torque ratings, but can't remember the exact number. Horsepower wise you should be good to around 600 HP. A lot depends on how you shift it though; you could ruin a synchro with a lot less hp if you treat it wrong.

I believe the viper T56 has beefed up internals and the T56 in our cars is good only to 450hp look at D and D performance's web site and they sell two versions of the T56

Hey it'll hold for sure. There are guys arunning 700+RWHP with the T56. You may want to have a company like D&D performance go through it and replace the syncros with better ones and replace the shift forks to prevent them from bending under hard shifts.

My t-56 holds 503rwhp and 495rwtq! it just depend s on how you shift it. You can't power shift or you will wear out the syncro's as well as your tranny.

Thanks for the replies guys. I really appreciate!

I have never abused my tranny in the past, except at the the track maybe... (OK, I will not powershift anymore, I swear ).

It's good to know that this T56 is stronger than I thought after all.

If it can absorb the raw torque, then I'll manage to shift it properly.
