well once again i waited til the last minute to get my t56 rebuilt. i scrambled to install my ls1/t56 combo in my 69 camaro only to find out 3rd gear is toast in my transmission. i pretty much walked away from the car 2 years ago. well i have a new interest in the car and i want to take it to a huge 3 day event this coming month. im not sure if it can be rebuilt and shipped back to me in time.

i contacted Tick and they said it would be about a 2 week turnaround and 5 days ground shipping both ways. my trans is still in the car and the car show/event is September 16/17/18

i thought about a new magnum unit but i dont want to spend that kind of cash and end up changing my drive shaft, shifter position, and trying to unload my t56 core.

does anyplace offer a reliable stage II rebuild on exchange? or will I run out of time sending it off to be rebuilt?

If it were me, I'd just drive the car without 3rd and wait until Winter and have the trans rebuilt right, without the big rush..

(This assumes 3rd is not mechanically broken and dumping metal into the trans...)

 

its just a grind but it will shift into third and hold the gear fine. all other gears are good. i have been driving it around revving second then double clutching into 4th. i went to one car show this way after i got it running.

 

Mine was doing the same in third. My shiftfork for was damaged(steel). Among other parts. Tick is the way to go.

 

i ordered a complete stage II kit from The Gear Box. among other things i have new bearings, shims, clips, third gear, syncros, and seals coming also. I found a shop about 60 miles from my house that is going to do the rebuild.

I pulled the trans out about 30 minutes ago.
