Default LT1 vs LS1 internals

Ok so my camaro bit the dust. Several times actually. The trans has been torn down 6 times since I've had it (13,000 miles) and a few before but first it was 5th gear twice. 3rd 4th and 5th would grind when cold which never was fixed. Then it dropped 2nd and now it stuck in 4th. Well they said I broke some kind of linkage and the end of a shift fork or something to that effect. Well I go to pick it up and as i drive off it scratches 3rd 4th and 5th so I turn around. The guy at Aamco and I go up the road and it doesn't grind at all which is typical then I tel him to put it in neutral and go in and out a few times well he does and it doesnt grind but on the 3rd time it sticks in 4th again. So now they think the countershaft is warped, I think thats what he called it. He said the one that turned everything else so my question is will one out of a LT1 trans work in LS1 trans. They're all ready 1500 bucks in this one plus 6 trips that are two hours one way. Thanks

You should have never taken your car to Aamco. I have yet to meet someone that works at an Aamco that knows a damn thing about manual transmissions.

Now I wish I had just bought a new one. I think they thought I was just beating the **** out of it until it stuck in 4th on the Aamco guy. I told them if I spint it through every gear for the 1000 miles it actually worked it shouldn't have screwed up.

They are feeding you a line about the cluster, but if you want, plug this into google:

Cluster Gear 2.66

and tell them that it only costs $200 for the cluster. The LT1 and LS1 Fbody units used the same cluster for all MM6 gearsets. The early '93 M28/M29 units are the exception.

He told me that it was the most expensive part of the transmission. Maybe hes just assuming but it was like 350 bucks for 2nd gear itself when it dropped. He said they sent that shaft off to have it checked and he told me it was warped but isn't there something else that causes them to stick in 4th alot. I honestly don't think they have a clue. And where can I get the cluster? Tremec?

Assuming your hydraulics and clutch are in good working order, you should probably not take your transmission there.

Any good trans builder would tell you if something else should be replaced while they are in there. It is not rocket science.

I would take it somewhere else but they've all ready been paid to fix it and thats what I thought that if something else was bad they'd replace it while there in there but I don't understand how it locked into 4th gear two times in a row unless they've failed to replace something else other than the countershaft being warped.

I can guarantee you that your cluster gear/counter shaft is not warped. Of the hundreds of T56 units I have built, I have never once seen one "warp" even in units that locked up going 100+ mph.
