I love my MGW.

To answer the last question, the factory Hurst and aftermarket Hurst are completely different, with the aftermarket Hurst usually being much better almost all applications.

I've thought about trying the mgw but decided against it since it has no shift stops. Anyone with the mgw damage your trans from power shifting?

^^^^^

The MGW shifter doesn't have shift stops (some, such as the aftermarket Hurst do), but rather uses the transmissions internal stops (like the stock shifter I believe)

I don't know if it would be a problem, I think the only issue that could come up would be from powershifting to 3rd or 4th as that's the fork that usually takes the most abuse. If it ever becomes a problem (which I can't imagine it being for most users), you can always upgrade to a steel fork over the factory aluminum. I posted a question about this a while back (you can search for the thread) and I was told not to worry about it.

I think I'm going to try out the mgw. If I don't like the feel of it in the first few miles I can send it back right?

For the mgw should I get the 12mm X 1.75 pitch or the 16mm?? What's the difference?

I just installed my Mgw shifter and it is great much better than the factory hurst. The 12mm is if you want to use one of their shift ***** and the 16mm is if you want to reuse the factory shift ****.

I'll throw up a +1 for B&M ripper just to mix things up a bit. I havent used any other aftermarket shifters....but it works great for me. I would have to agree that it's just a matter of personal preference and you'll just have to see which one feels good for you. I'm pretty sure whatever you buy is going to be better than stock tho. It should be fun trying them all out

Yeah, another +1 for the B&M Ripper. I haven't driven another 6-speed f-body since buying mine so I can't really compare it to anything else, but I really like the B&M. I have never missed a shift

Another Vote for the Hurst Billet Plus. I've had 7 different f-bodies in the past and have had just about every shifter on the market. The Hurst Billet was my all-time favorite.
There is no need to have shift stops or an adjustable shifter base, like the B&M or MGW. It just leaves more room for error. For example, if you reverse the washers on a Ripper shifter, then you'll be punching your HVAC controls every time you hit 3rd gear. effin stupid IMO lol
Also, by the way the T56 is designed, there is no need to have shifter stop bolts. The only good use for shifter stops that I can see would be on an old-school manual tranny with external linkage. The Hurst Billet is the only shifter that I know of that doesn't have all this BS on it.

For that you should get the 16mm thread and get the hurst ball that's made for our cars. That's what I have

The MGW does not have shift stops and i don't believe my base was adjustable in any way. I guess if you really needed to, you can turn the shifter offset for custom installs? Took me longer to get the console off carefully than it did to take the old shifter out and put my MGW in and have loved the feel of it since.
