nv3500?
so ive got a cam only lq4 going in an rx7 and a 5 speed nv3500 tranny outta a 03 4.8l pickup with 80k on it, they mockup well, however im not sure the tranny can take the power, and dont tell me t56 i already know thats an option, thats not what im asking.
That transmission is not designed to shift at higher rpms. Its a truck transmission with wider gear ratios than a T56 and syncro rings not designed for the kind of abuse you probably plan on putting it through.
a buddy of mine is running the nv3500 in his 6.0l swapped truck with a cam and sprayin a 100 shot and it works fine i think he shifts around 6k, plus the rx7 is lighter which is why i was thinkin it would work well, im more or less asking about spline count t56 vs nv3500 and overall length bell to tail, i know the t56 shifter is further back
Well like I said, between the wider gear ratio and the syncros inside it designed for lower rpm shifting, I would think its a terrible choice for a light weight car being built to perform.
But to answer your question, it uses a 10 spline input shaft, 32 spline output shaft and the shifter is located more toward the middle of the unit. Over all length is probably pretty close to a T56 with bellhousing.

its not my personal vehicle, its a car that im building for a customer who is trying to save some cash, he just wants it manual doesnt care what tranny and you cant touch a decent t56 for less than 1400 so this is a cheaper alternative that will get him the result he wants, car has 3.73 gears so i dont think it will be very bad, ive done several swaps for people with t56's this is just something different we r gonna try

Saving a nickel to spend a dollar doesnt make sense.. This trans will be trashed or at best wont shift properly and he will blame you.. I would just tell him the tranny wont fit the application..
I liked my NV3500 in a 4x4 S-series with 3.42 gears and 33" tires. Even in that first gear was pretty low. Good for getting the truck moving even when pulling a trailer...but that's about it. It kinda relied on the torque of the engine to make it work as the rpm drop was pretty bad between gears. It had a 4.3 in front of it so I never really turned it much past 5k. I could always tell it wasn't liking the rpms and me trying to shift it quickly.
It really did best when driving it like a truck
Somewhere on my lappytop I have a picture of a nv3500 that took a bit too much power, ripped the case apart. Neither here nor there tho.
