I have no idea why you think this.[/QUOTE]

My assumption was based on comments that the 4472's are either 27 or 32 spline, and there is not a 32 spline for an TR6060 or Magnum, so the choice is limited to a T56, unless a custom adapter is used to mate the TR6060's 31 spline to either a 27 or 32 spline for the 4472. You had not mentioned how you would deal with compatibility issues.

I was looking for an 31 spline adapter, but there doesn't seem to be anyone that makes that as a production item. For a custom "one off" adapter, the costs of that in my opinion, don't make a lot of sense. Without that adapter, and unless the input 4472's shaft could be changed to a 31 spline, it would make (cost) sense to go with a T56 with a 27 or 32 spline.

The other option I've been looking into for a 31 spline input, is a input shaft from a Ford NP271 which with some machining, might work for certain t-cases. I'm looking at the possibility of that for a NP241 (if I come across a good deal of a TR6060 or Magnum).

Have no doubts it can be done.

Be anxious/curious to know the cost.

It won't be cheap. We'll see what the input shaft group buy comes out to next time. I think it was $625 in 2015. The custom output shaft will be at least that much, although it won't require ID splining.

Depending on what year differential you are using you will have to have a good bit of custom machining done by a shop that is familiar with this modification. If you use a late model T56 tail housing from a 06/07 C6 Z06 transmission you won't have to have it machined. Then you will need a mainshaft from an 08-11 C6 TR6060. Another route would be to use a C5 differential pray to the T56 gods for a tail housing from an old 2.29 ratio race box. Then you would need a mainshaft out of a C6 base model TR6060 with the 27 spline outputshaft. But the 2.29 race boxes might as well not exist anymore.

When addressing is the mainshaft, you will need to tear the transmission down to bare bones and change the mainshaft out for a Corvette shaft.

My biggest concern with it all is the lack of a reverse lockout provision. You will be able to shift into reverse VERY easy when trying to go to 5th gear.

Hope this helps.
If I get a T56 Magnum, am I correct to understand a 06-07 Z06 tail house extension will bolt right up without any modifications/machining?

Would there be any machining for seals etc for the Magnum's 31 spline output?

Can someone help me?

I have a T56 from a Camaro 2002 swap in my Subaru, and I didn't connect anything in the reverse lockout conector... what is happen is that in high speed, when I will put 5th, sometimes almost enter reverse...
how should I do to work? should put 12v and a switch in reverse lockout? thanks for the help

This is the '97-'04 rear adapter that I have:

I've also figured out how to bolt up the 4472 T-case with an adapter plate about 1.1" thick. I'll use the aftermarket 32 spline input shaft for that T-case and a custom output shaft.
The 'Vette rear housing has two output shaft seals in a common bore with a weep hole between them. The "inner" seal is the transmission output seal. The "outer" seal is actually the 'Vette's differential input seal. For reasons that are not evident, the journal that seal rides on is smaller than the journal the inner seal rides on... IOW, the shaft necks down for that seal journal, then necks down further to the 27 spline diameter. As one can see from looking at pics of the SSR output shaft, the inner seal journal diameter is the same as the 32 spline OD.

I can just skip the outer seal because the T-case has its own input seal, which means that my custom output shaft can remain the 32 spline diameter all the way out. It will considerably shorter than any other T56 or TR6060 output shaft as it will only need to protrude ~1.5" beyond the face of the 'Vette rear adapter.
If its not too much trouble, am looking for 3 measurements.
  • What is the length of the C5 tail housing?
  • What is the measurement from the front face of the bell housing to the rear face of the C5 tail housing?
  • What is the OD of the flange on the C5 tail housing?
