George makes a great shifter, but he should leave transmissions to people that know.. There is nothing in the T56 to center the shifter, only detents that help locate the gates.
I'm 100% sure, no need for a video.

I hope George browses these forums lol. I wish he would see this. He swore up and down that the transmission has centering spings. I wonder what happened to make my MGW bad. Faulty springs? I don't want anyone who is in the market for a shifter to pass up MGW because of these 2 threads open right now about this issue. The shifter is smooth, short, strong and solid. I love it. I will love it more when i get a new one that centers itself. George told me to call back monday and have his secretary send me out a new one.

Sorry for the darkness, the trans is freshly rebuilt, no fluid and sitting in my basement.
The MGW is also brand new.

I appreciate your help mike. Was that a shifter for a gto or vette? looked different than mine. Hopefully the new one they send me will center itself properly!

It's a F-body shifter with a cobra offset handle and **** to fit in my C4 swap.

there is only one spring loaded check ball in the trans and that is located under the plate on top of the trans. This is the gate for the shift pattern.
The springs in the shifter locate the shifter to center. The strength of the springs in the shifter is what locates the shifter back to center. I have my trans tore down right now so I know there is no centering mechanisms in the transmission. hope this helps and good luck

I took mine apart because I had the same problem a couple of months ago. What I noticed is that somehow the 1-2 spring got switched around with the reverse spring. The reverse return spring is progressive and not strong enough to center the trans from 1-2 to nuetral. I switched the springs around and it fixed the problem for me. The springs are really easy to get swapped around in the assembly process so it is probably just an honest mistake.
