Yea there's quite a few people running the synchromesh in their T-56. I'm running the pennzoil synchromesh right now, which is the same as the gm stuff. It's your choice on whether or not to change it or not, though. Some people will tell you to just keep the same fluid in there since its been in there for so long, just make sure it's filled. I bought my car a year ago with 103k on it and I changed mine with no problems so far, but the fluid looked pretty fresh so it had been changed before. Your choice.

Drained mine this weekend and after seeing all the previous maintenance done by the original owner i am willing to bet this is the original fluid after 158k miles. I was having grinding issues. Put Pennzoil Syncromesh back in and its as smooth as butter and shifts perfect again. 3.8 quarts to fill. So just buy 4.

Although I'm sure synchromesh wont hurt anything and alot of people use it, I can't help but think that both Borg-Warner and Tremec put a bright orange stickers on T56's that say "Use Dexron 3 ATF only".
