Default T-56 Whining

I have a 2002 Camaro SS with the T-56 Transmission. The car is making a whining noise in all gears. Mostly noticeable under light accel. I've already rebuilt the diff. The noise did not change. I'm looking for any information or suggestions on what the problem might be in the transmission. Or has anyone else had or have this problem? Thanks!

I Only hear it when moving under light acceleration. goes away when clutch pedal is pushed down. I mostly notice it at low RPM's but that could be because the exhaust noise drowns out the whining... Vehicle speed doesn't seen to affect it....

Well those statements don't really say it's a certain faulty part. Probably have to hear it.

It really sounds like a gear whine, I don't expect for some to tell me excatly what the problem is. I'd just like to know if anyone else is having any gear or whining problems with their T-56 Transmissions.

Mine developed exactly the same whine as you have described it last year. So, I changed all the bearings myself, but to my disgust...the freaking whine didn't go away . Somebody told me that I need to change the input shaft and cluster gear. I find the whining very annoying, but it kind'a sounds like a kennebell supercharger. Lol!

Whining is almost always the input and cluster gear not bearings.

what kind of power? i burned up input and cluster gears several times due to fluid sloshing away from gears, but that was at 700+ whp. it would whine like described and you would really notice it during low speed slow gear changes. went to a pump setup and solved the issue. check the fluid level if your not making big power maybe its low but damage is likely already done

Gears whine, not bearings. Not sure who told you to change them.

I just bought a 2000 camaro SS with 45k and it does the same thing. It is worse when the car is cold, and yea it sounds almost like a supercharger whistle LOL. I thought it could maybe be the power steering pump whining. You dont hear it once you put the radio on LOL.

Yes thats true, It does go away when I turn up the stereo...lol
The car is basically stock with just Intake, Exhaust and ECM programming for mods. Its not as loud as a supercharger but is defenitly annoying. I mostly hear it when crusing with my foot lightly on the throttle. Sounds the same at city and highway speeds, even in fourth gear... If some of you guys are having problems with the input and cluster gears, I'm guessing thats where my noise is coming from.

If the noise is there in 4th gear, its probably the differential making noise.

Yea when I rev the car you can hear it and it is worse when it is cold, it has the stock exhaust still so when I get on it i can really hear the whine. It is annoying but hopefully when I put an exhaust on I wont really hear it LOL
