Default Tick or Texas Drive train Performance?

My 2002 T56 has 50K miles on it and is stuck in 4th. It looks like stage 1 at Tick is about the same as stage 2 at TDP and the pricing is about the same too.

Any recommendations on who is good or who to stay away from? Is there anyone good in the upper midwest?

I'm wondering the same.

I haven't heard anything bad about TDP, I think they will get my business.

the difference between ticks stage 1 and stage 2 is the gears are cryogenic treated. This is like a tempering process for the gears that makes them harder there for stronger. Unless youre really strapped for cash go at least stage 2, if youre going to build a car with some good power, go viper spec. Do it once, do it right. Personally tick will get all of my transmission related business.

Oh yeah I am totally strapped for cash to the point of considering trying to fix it myself and not swapping the slave and clutch while I have it out. I'm WAY over budget in this pile as it is.

I talked to Tick and for what I am doing no need for the cryo treatment. TDP hasn't returned my call yet so not sure what they recommend.

TDP is about $150 cheaper I think when you factor in shipping. Tick includes shipping in their $999 and TDP doesn't.

I can only vouch for Jason @ TDP ,I had 5,6th gear vibration[bad] with some other issues a local shop was suppossed to have fixed & lived with it that way for almost 2yrs [do to cash flow].
Well I sent it to Jason @ TDP for the STG 2 along with a full check up & the trans is .....Super Tight & shifts like a dream at 6900rpm 's !
I am Very Satisfied & would not hesitate to recomend TDP.

Thanks guys. From talking to both shops it sounds like Jason has a ton more experience and better parts since he has his own made. I'm thinking TDP is better from what I see so far.

Another vote for TDP. Builds a mean transmission and customer service second to none. You won't be disappointed. My opinion isn't swayed by only doing business with just one either.

Tdp without a second thought. Call jason up and just talk on the phone with him and you will see how good his customer service is. I was orginally going with tick but they didn't have any cores avaible and had like a 4 month wait for one. Not bashing tick at all I just needed a t56 and heard of tdp called jason up and ordered my t56 in the same phone call. Trans arrived on time as jason said and drives without any hiccups. COULD NOT BE HAPPIER WITH IT

Both companies have an outstanding reputation and product, no doubt. A few of my friends have been to TDP for various work to be done to their cars, none of them could be happier

I can say if we said you don't need the cryo then you probably don't need it

What are you're plans for the car, how much power?

We've beat on these things pretty good as have a lot of our customers.

Added: as far as experience goes we've been building these things for nearly 10 years as a company and well before that not as a company. The guy who builds our transmissions now at our shop that Jonathan hand picked and trained we stole him away from a Nascar team in Mooresville. I will find out Monday exactly what teams he was a part of and built for, but they aren't teams you've never heard of before. Rest assured you got some of the best building it if you choose Tick.

Jason at TDP has done my Z06, mustang, and now my WS6. I've never had a problem with anything he has done. I work out of town a lot and got a last min call out while my T/A was at his shop. He took the time to put it in his shop every night and make sure it was secure. He has an acre behind his shop that is fenced and could of left it back there but actually took the time tabs went that extra step. I was gone for an entire month! Never dealt with tick, they may be awesome as well.

Mostly driving back and forth to work with a couple hpde days and a half dozen autox each summer. It's an SLP car with a mid level cam and headers, so maybe 400 hp at the crank. The car has a stock clutch and 3.73 gears.

Thanks!

No other future modifications?

Our level one will handle 450ft. lbs. at the rear wheels and customers have taken them well past that before, something we don't necessarily recommend, but it has been done.
