Default When is a shatterproof bell housing needed

I know that they are always a good idea, but am really running the car hard lately and don't have much extra money for the car right now. The clutch is a McLeod single strap....older style..here is a link closest to the clutch I have

http://www.mcleodracing.com/products...trap+Drive.mcl

Now are these super lightweight clutches more at risk of blowing vs a stock organic style? Should I really not shift hard without a better bellhousing

IMO if you plan on racing at the track often then its a must. I have a quicktime bellhousing on mine. I've also seen clutches come apart on the street aswell so if you have the cash for it, I would definately get one.

I would highly recommend a blow proof bellhousing. I run a Quicktime in my car as well. They are well worth the investment. The peace of mind you get when you launch the car (especially when you launch at 5000+rpm like I do) is well worth the money. I personally like the Quicktime bells a lot more than the McLeod.

Watch this video. If he would have had a blow proof bellhousing he wouldn't have had nearly as much damage.

Clutches can fail at any time. Not just when drag racing.

A scatter shield is only needed when the person operating the car in a abusive manner values their foot or leg more than $500.

If you drive your car aggressively, heavily modded its a good idea to have a scattershield. I didnt really think about it much until I broke into the 11s last year & was asked by the local track owner if I had one, which at the time I didnt & I was doing 5-6k clutch dumps.

After seeing that video & all the damage done to the car & how close it came to the gas pedal made me realize how lucky I got last year. Not worth saving $500 to find out.

My clutch came apart hard shifting on the street. Lucky for me it didnt explode like in that video. After experiencing that (and realizing how lucky I was that it didnt explode) when the new motor and clutch go in this spring, I will have an aftermarket bellhousing. My question is does Quicktime make a bellhousing for LT1 style t56's? I know Mcleod does but Quicktime is right down the street from me so I wouldnt have to wait on shipping

That video is insane in the fact that the dude blows up his **** RIGHT IN FRONT of the shop. Who has luck like that? With my luck, it would be at some track 150 miles away that I drove it to and have to figure out how to get it home.

I agree here...I don't care if you race or not...an engine at moderate RPMS can send a clutch flying and incredible speeds. I have had a Safety Bell on every manual car I have owned. You never know! It saving a few hundred bucks worth it? If that guy had safety bell, the explosion would have been contained. I bet even the block would have been saved
