Default Need some help on rebuild

So I'm attempting to rebuild my T-56 for the first time. I have followed the step by step process from the sticky but I'm having a problem with the 2 torx head bolts on the case. I have already stripped 2 sockets trying to break them loose. They seem to be seized to the aluminum. Is there a trick to it or Is the steel in my tools just to soft? The sticky says they are T-40 but it fit kinda sloppy to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated because this has me at a standstill.

Heat the the bolts heads with a torch to melt the thread locker. I also broke two bits before I tried heating them. Also, the torx bits without the hollow center will be a little stronger. I borrowed one from my work, Sears only had the hollow ones.

Mine were solid they just twisted and broke. I'll try heating them tomorrow. Will a propane torch do the job? Also, they are t40 aren't they? I can't help thinking about how loose the bit fit.

Propane torch will work. Heat them for a min or two. Not sure what size bit, I have a set and used whatever fit best.

Ok man I'll give it a try. Thanks a lot. I didn't know they had thread locker on em. Although I kinda figured they did after the 2nd bit broke lol

The earlier bolts are a poor fit for Torx bits. I always had better luck driving a Torx Plus 40 into them (except when the head cracked.) The later bolts are better-fit to a regular T-40 and Liberty sells hex-head bolts. Or a nut welded to them makes a lot of sense.

Heat them up, tighten slightly to break free, then back them out. Then use anti-sieze on the way in.

Ok I finally got them out. A little heat and they came out no problem. Kinda makes me feel dumb lol. Thanks for the help guys. Now I'm just waiting on a new 2nd gear from tick and then I'll be putting it all back together. Might be back for more help lol. Hopefully not though.

I'm surprised Tick has 2nd gears. They are on back order last I heard from Tremec.

Ok I finished up my trans and put it back in the car. Everything is fine now except I'm getting a slight grind going into 5th gear. Everything in the trans looked like brand new except the busted 2nd gear. This is my first time inside a trans so I'm thinkin maybe I did something wrong? I never had this problem with 5th until I worked on it. I really don't think it Is the synchro because it looked great. Any ideas? 5th gear is the only gear it happens in.
