Default Burnt up McLeod twin disc..

I was at the track earlier this summer and burnt up my twin disc. Come to find out later, it was not intended for drag racing. My Camaro put down 430rwhp on a mustang dyno and i need a good clutch that will hold on the street and strip. I will be adding a 150 shot in the near future. What is a good clutch, for a reasonable price, that will have no problems holding 3-4grand launches at the track?

Ill start sounding like a broken record but my monster stage 2 is fantastic, great quality, great customer service, and hasnt had any issue after 5k miles of DDing. I would go with monster for every one of my future clutch needs. I'd contact them about which clutch to go with for your applications.

If you want to dump it at 5Krpm with 430rwhp+150shot I would get a Monster Stage 3, or a Monster 11" Ceramic.

Or instead of the RST, get the RXT.

Yeah the RST isn't for track use. You have to use the RXT.

I didn't realize the street twin wasn't for the drag strip. If that's the case what are the half dozen people on the fastest six speed list that are using them to go 10's and faster doing different?

Didn't Taner go 8's on a street twin? In my experiance, driver error (excessive slipping of the clutch) typically will hurt ANY clutch........not that it's what caused the OP's issue. Perhaps something wasn't set up correctly?

The RST specifically isn't designed for drag race use. The RXT is the one that is needed. I'm not saying it can't be used, I'm saying that its not intended to be used like that.

Sorry OP but I think we're talking about 3 different clutches here McLeod offers the Street Twin, RST Twin, and an RXT Twin. I'm referring to the Street Twin.

i was riding the clutch a little harder trying to keep the stock rearend intact and im pretty sure thats what happened. i figured being a twin disk it would have handled the punishment a little better

Just responding to this because after 1 visit to the track, and 6 1/8th mile track passes, my Mcleod Street twin is toast it seems. My car probably dynos a tick over 400 to the wheel right now. Really not impressed with Mcleod right now, and this is further solidifying my choice to swap in the TH400 that is sitting in my garage. SO done with manuals for right now.

I have a LS3 429 Stroker in my RX7 running the Mcleod RST twin disk. I absolutely love it. I have beat the living crap out of it and it continues to grab hard. My RX7 Dynoed at 515WHP on a Mustang Dyno. Car runs consistent 10.50's on street tires.

Not going to lie, it sounds like improper break in or driver error.

Do you guys have some pics???

I recently installed the the McLeod RST, and love it! I was told by numerous experts that the RST would be perfect for my application...a HCI LS1 with a 100-150 shot. I believe it's rated for like 800 hp/tq

Your car doesn't make enough power to necessitate a twin disc, give us a call before going to the dark side and we'll get you into a clutch that will hold and give you zero issues!

Yeah, it doesn't make the power anymore. It used to be a twin turbo car and it made 607rwhp, but I am kind of in between turbo builds with it, and just using it as N/A right now.

Having had one myself on a DD 750+whp 3800# trans am, if you guys are toasting ANY McLeod twin its from one of 2 things

1. Oil on the clutch from a leaking rear main

2. You cant ******* drive for ****

There is no possible way in hell you should toast a McLeod twin, any of them with 400whp, unless you cant drive a manual to save your life, which is the case 98% of the time. Just being honest. Even with heavy track use it should last quite some time, was the best clutch on the market for YEARS and lived behind many a 800hp car
