Default A close look at the LG Motorsports/Emco sequential gear box

Hi guys,

I wanted to take some time for those looking at sequential transmissions and show you what goes inside of a purpose built unit, not just a conversion piece.

This is the same unit we have been running for seasons in GrandAm and very similar to the larger unit featured in our ALMS GT2 Corvette, and the very SAME unit you can buy for your own project.

With over 45 different gear ratios you can custom tailor this box to each track and your car for the ultimate in close ratio gear boxes

These are all built to order and come in almost 20 lbs lighter than the OEM gear box and feature pressurized, filtered oil to all bearings and gears. Straight cut gears with of course replaceable dog rings for engagement.

Assembled main case

Tail shaft removed showing reverse gear

Comparison of the reverse gear to the main gears
Notice how much wider the forward gears are

Shift forks, notice they are gun drilled and feature pressurized oiling passages

Look inside the main case. Notice the large roller bearings and also pressurized spray bar for oiling to the gears

Main gear cluster

Huge main roller bearings for main shaft and counter shaft

Main shafts and shift rail

Gun drilled main shafts, again with pressurized oiling passages

Main shaft support bearings in place

Built in oil pump

Fine micro filter assembly

Oil pick up tube

[yt]OC4mtuu9YiU[/yt]

[yt]jUSPwmN9MWE[/yt]

As you can see it is more than just a face plated, or dog ring gear box T56 that goes into each one of these gear boxes.

While they may not be for everyone, I hope this shows you a bit more info on what goes inside of one of these awesome units! Feel free to hit me with any questions you have!

Amazing! I gotta ask, how much $$$ for a tranny like this, over 10k? I just bought a secondhand Jerico DR4 with roadrace sliders for my new project, so eventually I'll get the experience of going clutchless...

I would love to have one of these for a future track build. Just a piece of artwork.

I wish, when this unit came out it was one of the cheaper units for the cars and cut the price by almost 25k over the transaxle unit that was in our ALMS GT2 Corvette.

Yes, that is STILL a bargain compared to the; Quaife, X-Trac, FFD, and even some of the Hollinger units.

This is pretty much an unstreetable unit due to the straight cut gear scream, and how much you would kill said gears trying to drive it in stop and go traffic, correct??

I was wondering just how loud it was too. The Vette looks very streetable inside but with a 30k trans/transaxle.

I spent a month on You-tube listening to straight-cut gears in different trannies before deciding the noise wasn't objectionable. The way the sliders in this trans are cut, it would be OK on the street. Look at the pic titled "Main gear cluster" and observe the sliders (between the drive gears). Those and the gears are wedge-cut on both drive and coast sides so they will actually "pull" the teeth into alignment on both accel and decel.

Its not just the noise issue a straight or spur gear drive gears make with a box like this. The dog clutching teeth work great in a race situation but require finesse on the street. Also as a daily driver...these dog teeth will wear in relatively few miles...that is they will require "dressing" to keep / retain crisp shifts.

No more interior noise than a MagnaCharger......I have been inside automatic cars that had more interior noise than a cam'd Z06 with this box in them.

Stop and go your going to be on and off the clutch, most of the gear sets I have done have a 60-70 mph 1st gear in them.

Just like clutch wear....depends on the driver.

Holy Moly! Well I guess you gotta pay to play, huh? Awesome piece of cutting edge technology, I do say though!

This piece is probably highly sought after by conversion companies like Hennessey and Ultima maybe.

The Corvette box is one of the more expensive units due to the front and rear adapters and goofy input/output shaft assembly on those. The standard fitment boxes with a traditional bellhousing and tail shaft are a bit cheaper but still running in the high teens to low 20's depending on application and other parts you might need.

I'm completely ignorant to these type of units.. Are they streetable if the noise isn't a concern?
