Default LS2/T56 clutch choice

Tried this in the Hybrids and Conversions but no input. So I have an LS2/T56 combo out of an '05 GTO transplanted into a 1966 Chevy truck with 1993 Corvette front and rear suspension in a custom tubular chassis. It appears the OEM GTO clutch is 12" but that is for roughly a 3800lb car. My project will be in the neighborhood of 2900lbs and I'm going for a road race setup so I want to keep flywheel weight/rotating mass down. Stock hp is 400 and in the future I may take it to 500 max. I've looked at the LS7 assembly but 57lbs is a lot heavier than the OEM GTO at 8lbs lighter plus the Monster 12" with an 18lb flywheel seems like a better choice for the weight. Also, since I'm going to change all the plumbing for the slave cylinder can I just get the F body replacement instead of spending the extra cash on the GTO unit?

Thanks

You will need someone with GTO experience but I wouldn't worry too much about the flywheel weight as it compares to cost and durability. I don't think you can beat the ls7 clutch for the price. Great smooth feel and works well at your power level. I tracked with it when I had H/C and never had a problem with it. Previous aftermarket clutches are another story. I am now running a McCleod RXT twin which I'm very happy with.

You might consider our SC75A flywheel (which is just under 13-lbs) and either our standard 12" LS clutch kit or even our Aluminum Pressure-Plate option which uses an 11" clutch assembly and cuts weight by another ~6lbs when compared to an OE 11" setup. I have provided a link below. Take a look and let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks!

+1 on the light flywheel and aluminum pressure plate. I've got a light Flywheel coupled to a Spec Stage 2+ clutch w/ the aluminum pressure plate option. It's a great set up for a road racing. I also have a custom aluminum drive shaft as well. FWIW, the car in my sig weighs about 2900 pounds and took considerable effort to get it there (Lexan, aluminum, fiberglass, parts removal, etc). Let me know if want more detailed info on the process.

I couldn't find any pictures on the spec site but is your aluminum flywheel made with a one piece insert or a multi piece? thanks

Our flywheel has a one piece bolt-on steel surface.

I would go with our Level 2 or Level 3 12" clutch packages. Either flywheel will work great at that vehicle weight. Also, as far as the slave goes, the GTO is $15 more and allows you to directly put a AN line on it with some fittings but overall is IMO to work with that the fbody disconnect. If you have any questions feel free to shoot me an email or give me a call .
