Default Loud pop sound came from clutch pedal this morning

I'm stopped at the light and start to push in the clutch pedal when a very loud pop sound occurs. I disengage the clutch and try again, everything seems fine. Also, I've noticed recently that when hot or cold, getting into first/second gear from idle is hard to push the shifter there (which I thought was related to the synchros, not the clutch).

Any ideas what the problem might be, what I should look at. Car only has 8k miles on it. TIA, Dave

It's the clutch return spring... happens pretty frequently, the spring is brittle and it breaks. There's a TSB on it and they will fix it under warranty...

FWIW, it's not really a necessary part... been driving around without mine for a while now.
