Default 2000 TA T56 slides out of gear

I am just starting to drive my 00 TA. The shifter is a Hurst, and the car has 166,XXX on the odometer. When driving, it shifts really nice, both normal and power shifting. I have noticed that 2nd and 4th gear seem to have little resistance going in and out of gear, and if in these gears, if i push in the clutch it will gently slide it self out of those gears. Is this a shifter problem, or an internal wear problem?

Thanks a ton.

It almost sounds like you have bent or worn keys but usually those will pop out of gear or not let it go in. Thats really odd I suppose it could be the shifter is loose from age and works its way out. Maybe try another shifter and it it still does it, it's probably time for a trans freshen up

No grinding what so ever, and it goes in and out smoothly. It almost feels like there is a stretched or broken spring. Like the shifter is pulling itself out of gear. It really feels like its in the shifter.

It's worth a shot. Maybe try and get a cheap stock shifter and see if it fixes it. If so then invest in a good shifterr

it has a factory hurst.... That being said, is that just the shifter stick itself? or is it the whole shifter assembly?

The hurst option brings a whole different shifter but it certainly isn't the best

Could be the shifter boot causing it to pop out. Pull the boot off and go for a ride.
