Default UPDATE!Will My Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch Hold 5k-6k Launches

Planning on going to the track with 28x10.5 et drags but not sure if my clutch will hold 5,000 to 6,000 rpm dumps, So was wondering if you guys ever used this clutch & dumped that high at the track. Mods in signature

If i was betting on your race i would bet against your clutch holding up.

my experience is that the center force is a good clutch but not made for what you are looking to do.

As mentioned^ Its not a clutch really meant for your use, but it should hold.

It'll take it fine. A buddy I race with has been doing 5500rpm dumps for the last 3 years and running low 12s on his, and so far so good.

When the car was just bolt-on I was also doing plenty of 5,000 to 6,000 rpms launches.. I guess I'll just have to try it & if it goes out then I'll be buying a Monster stage 3

Thumbs down

Uh, no way, that POS! will go quickly on you dumping like that, I finally cleaned out the rest of the debris out of my bellhousing. Not even 2,000 miles on it, track time once with just three times down, feathered it out the hole. The Holiday weekend two weeks ago it exploded from a 1st to second shift at WOT, I was not on the spray either, and when I do spray it comes on at 3500rpms, thank god I was by my house and live on a hill, so I just coasted into the driveway. NO way would I tell you to launch on that clutch, never again for me on Centerforce!

you may get away with a clutch dump or two at 5k.....but you will kill the centerforce DF in short order.

you really need a twin disc clutch with ceramic disc material to take that kind of abuse...or a similar friction full face single disc. Understand if the clutch holds....parts downstream of it may not

I have been through a variety of single disc clutches, some custom made. They all held initially, some longer than others. All died after about 2k mi and 2 of them on the starting line. I now run a twin and do not dump the clutch above 2k-2500 rpm rpm.

How much hp were you pushing when you messed the clutches up?

Smile

Well, no spray at the time, WOT first to second shift, I heard a crunch, 420rwhp, 400rwtq to the wheels and this thing stayed stuck in engaged and exploded inside my bellhousing. I will say something before that, this clutch never gave me warning of any kind that it was having problems, no slipping and was light pressured on the pedal, good in the city, it just after 2,000 miles went bad at WOT.

395 RWHP/418 RWTQ running a MT ET Street, 4400 LB car

clutchs were SPEC 2+, ClutchNet DF, Competition Clutch 2.5, Zoom kevlar Puc. They all held initially but died in a year or two....some more dramatically than the others.

maybe not what you would chose but for "my" prefrences the Twin is better. My twin has organic disc material and drives like a stock clutch on the street.

I found the more aggressive disc material the single disc clutches I had the more "chatter" and on/off charastics were the deal. I don't know if Monster makes LT1 "pull" clutches. I would have gone with a SPEC 3+ but glad I went with the twin as I suspect street maners would not have been as good. There is absolutely no slip at high RPM and fast shifts with the twin. Wish I had put a twin in when I did the A4-T56 swap in 05, would have been $ ahead.....ah hindsight is always 20/20

Hopefully it does, but let me know when you're ready if it doesn't.

Went to the track & my clutch held up some 4,500 to 5,000rpm launches. Did about 2 4,500 launches & bogged like a **** then upped it to 5,000 to 5,200 & still bogged. My 60ft was a 1.78 et 7.7 ... Not happy at all.. I did a total of 7 passes & clutch is still holding up..lol

Not bad, sounds like you need to slip the clutch more to keep it from bogging. 28" tall tires aren't helping, curious why you're running them?

28's are too tall for 4.11's - put some 4.56's in it and let it eat it....unless you plan on spraying the car.

Completely depends on your gear. A taller tire eats up your gear, so it is like have 3.73s vs 4.11s with a 26". (Note that's probably wrong, I'm just giving an example).
