WHAT TRANS FOR MY 65 Corvette LS3 Suggestions
Ok guys hope you can help? I have a 65 Vette and am using a GM LS3 430hp bone stock motor. I currently have a tremec 600 Tko and shifts tight very notchy and has a very short throw shifter (talked to the guys that made it and said yes not much can be done).
I had hoped to use a T5 but seems it will not work due to the torque the new motor will make (436 @ 4600).
I am also consider the T56 but man its big, and without major surgery to the car its not good.
I don't mind losing the stock location of the shifter as that's a fairly easy thing to do (really want a smooth shifting trans).
What other Trans to consider due to tunnel size, running out of options? HELP PLEASE!

People would say the T56 shifts badly too though.
Personally Ive never had a problem with it.
So you need to assess if there is an actual problem with your TKO, or if it is normal. And you need to drive a T56 or 6060, to see if it would actually even be an improvement
If you really a felt a T5 would shift the way you like...what about one with an uprated gearset as a compromise ? That would beef it up strength wise.

A standard T5 will not handle the torque. That isnt to say an uprated one wont.
It would be worth getting a second opinion on the 600 though. Ive never driven one...but it really cant be that bad ?

Honestly, the simplest option is the T56 magnum. With a stock engine, you can easily take advantage of the .50 overdrive gear. I would pick something like a 3.42 rear gear and run a 26" tall tire.
Another option might be the new Keisler SS700, but they seem to be hard to get, and Keisler doesn't like selling just transmissions. They prefer selling a whole install kit, wich may or may not work for you. Although, they have done installs into C2 Corvettes and done so without any major surgery to the rest of the car. Might be something to consider.

Just shot them an email wish me luck! This I know will fit the trans tunnel much better and they say there T5 can support the torque rating. I just hope its a street friendly trans? Thanks again all!!
