Default T56 rebuild tips

Hi guys I am going to rebuild my t56 with the help of a few friends. I was having some grinding issues, which I think we found. the pilot bushing was starting to mushroom out and was burred up. I only have 400 miles on the car so I'm not sure how that happened. Since the trans is out I might as well go through it since it was used.

I think I am going to replace, shifter ball bushing, shifter fork pads, and billet keys. They seem like the most common things that people replace. I have a 2004 t56 so it should already have the better shift fork.

Are there any tips that you would care to share ?

Are there any thing in paticular I should replace while I am in there?

When people talk about endplay, how do you set that ? What is a good measurement of endplay ?

I do plan on racing the car so it will have to stand up to 500hp on slicks.

Thanks !

I just tore down a couple 2006 M12 units. The one with double the mileage has significantly more wear on the 5-6 cluster gear location on the mainshaft. The bearings on both are pretty ugly compared to some other high-mile F-body units. I'll just say "teardown, then order."
