Default scavenge pump for the T56

I picked up a used STS oil scavenge pump basically for free and want to use it to spray the forward gears on my T56. Only problem is that i see other brand scavenge pumps say that they are not compatible with ATF.. any one have any guesses to why that is? I mean the pump can flow 1.75 GPM of 300 degree motor oil but not 180 degree ATF?

Thanks in advance

Also please note that the pump will be run on a WOT switch and not used very much at all.

That's a bronze gear pump, atf has different lubrication properties. You might have some bronze shavings end up in the tranny. Try to get ahold of a z51 pump.

Not familiar with the pump you are talking about but it may be a diaphram -type pump with a rubber or rubber-like membrane that is not in-like with ATF. I would prefer an positive displacement gear-type pump over this type.
For a cooler function, no more that 3gmp would be required. If you are looking to pressure lube gears, a more substantial external pump would be needed.
BTW
The Z51 pump is an internal trans-driven cooler pump. This is not a viable option if the internals are not machines for this. That is , it could be included but with much alteration. In this case an external arrangement is a better choice.

This pump will see extremely minimal use. It will be on a WOT switch, with that said I'm going to run it and see how long it lasts.

I'm hoping you find a suitable small pump. I don't have hardly any room under my nova.

scavenge pump for the T56-image-2739750192.jpg

Pump is tiny.. I like it. Also it is a bronze gear pump. Apparently the blue one is the latest and greatest from STS. I talked to joe@sts and he told me the pump will flow at slower rates if the voltage is regulated and lowered. It is also able to flow backwards by reversing polarity. He was unsure of the GPM but wanted to say it was right around 1.0/1.5 I will be testing this when my fittings come in this week. That's all for now

I'm not sure I would lower the voltage to control pump speed. I would find a controller that can pulse width modulate.

If you lower the voltage the amps are going to climb. Its best to keep the volts high and amps lower, and turn the pump on and off realllly fast.

I have no intentions of doing so. I was merely stating that it is an option with this pump per STS
