Default Shifter shaft threads.

Just getting ready to order a shifter for my car, and I was just wondering if there was any advantage to getting the factory 16mm threaded shaft or the 12mm threaded shaft. I'm assuming the only difference would be I could use my shift I already have on the 16mm. Is this just personal preference? Thanks.

I have the stock 16mm and if i had to do it over again I would go with the 12. The 16 was only used on fbodys so there are not as many **** choices. The 12mm was used in mustangs so there are a lot more options

I imagine the shifter boot on the console would also be looser if you go with less girth.
