Default shifter cup damaged

New MGW shifter, first hard shift and it doesn't goto into gear, third gear is the worst, but happens in second and forth as well. What would have caused this? Was not in this shape during install, no problems previously. Did I shift to hard? 7 years with a pro 5.0 may have made me want to jam it much harder than usual.

Just want to make sure replacing with a bronze cup will solve it and there isn't a larger issue.

Did you call MGW to ask them about this?

I want to know what is going on before ordering one myself (coming from a Pro 5.0).

I don't believe the shifter caused the damage. I was just hoping someone could answer why it fails. On top of the damage, it looks swollen. I think there is something else at play here.

Either way, I bought a bronze cup from Tick and will install it when it arrives and will update on how it solves the problem and if something occurs.

It looks like the shifter ball didn't extend far enough into the cup but was just catching the lip. Can you compare the distance from the shifter mounting flange to the ball end that fits in the cup between the MGW and Pro 5.0?

I don't have the pro 5.0 anymore, but I have the stock one somewhere. But I roughly measured it with a tape measure and it looks like there shouldn't be a problem there. I will take home some calipers from work tonight and get a better measurement.

Can anyone take the following measurement for me, I don't have any shifters around. Just want to rule out it being too short.

I measured my stock shifter and from the mounting surface to the top flat area of the ball I get 1.375. Do you have your tape measure down in the well on the MGW? You've got to watch out for parallax error the way your measuring.

It's against the base. It's 1.25. I'll take it to work tomorrow and get it the calipers

What's that thick gasket you have on you MGW??? Don't use that, there's your problem. Just use a small bead of RTV.

Cobra bobs shifter gaskets. Been using them for 8 years. Stock shifter and pro 5.0. It compresses a bit. Can't imagine rtv is much thinner, but I'll try it.

Install the shifter with wet RTV. It will squeeze down to a few thousands thick. By your measurement the MGW is .125 shorter than stock, add another .125 for bob's gasket and now you're at .250. That is probably your issue. FWIW for a while I had a MGW shifter with the stock plastic cup with no issues.

Got the tickshift bronze isolator cup last night, used RTV instead of the cobra bob gasket, and all seems perfect. I am leaning towards the factory cup being slightly damaged even last year. I know the MGW feels way better than my 7 year old Pro 5.0 did, but this cup made things even more firm.

My MGW broke 2 plastic cups in a week. Same issue. Did not use bobs shifter gasket. Replaced with bronze.. all is good
