Default T-56 seeming like its ready to blow after fluid change

I've got an 2002 T/A with MM6, 55,000 miles on it. LS7 clutch, Tick, 405 HP-390 TQ, etc, etc. We did a first time fluid change on the tranny , I THINK we used Mobil 1 dexron, I know I used ATF, just can't remember exactly what we put in there as far as brand. Since the fluid change I noticed some noise coming from the tranny, but since the rear end (factory 10-bolt with 3.90's, new bearings, etc) was making noise, I kept driving it. After making a couple of passes, powershifting it at 6,000+ RPM, it finally grinds going into 3rd. Within 5-10 miles or less now it's making LOTS of noise, and feeling like it's gonna seize up altogether. So I go onto Tremecs site and read that some synthectics are not good for these trannys so I wonder if that caused the problem. My question is will another fluid change save this tranny or is it too late? I want a Magnum for it, but would also like to wait on that if possible just to be able to keep driving it this summer, and all the other reasons as well. I live in Michigan, so the season is short here.

What type of Dexron ATF did you use Dex III, IV, V? It is recommended that you use DEX III only on a stock T56 from what I have heard. https://ls1tech.com/forums/manual-tr...t56-fluid.html

There's a lot of complaints with Mobil 1. Switch to penny oil synchromesh or any dex III non synthetic fluid

I talked to a guy at Tremec and he thinks the clutch line needs to be bled, so I am HOPING that is the problem

Just an FYI; DO NOT use the Dexron 6 fluids in a T56/TR6060, they are WAY TOO THIN for this app.!!!
(Unless you live in northern Alaska, and drive it through the winter, then maybe it is OK)

The dude at Tremec told me today that "it doesn't matter really, it won't hurt it and it won't fix it, the Pros use Mobil 1"

I can tell you right now the pros use whatever's on sale at autozone. Just call tick and ask them. Also do a search on here and see the issues with Mobil 1. Go with regular dex III. Dex vi won't work, gm initially tried it then revoked it. Sounds like the guy at tremec was clueless

As of 3 years ago Tremec's official word was to use either ATF Dex 3 or Mobil 1 synthetic ATF. Those were the only 2 they had run successful tests on. The other brands they had no comment on. When I changed mine I saw some complaints on Mobil 1 causing some notchiness, etc....so I stuck with the Valvoline non-syntec ATF Dex 3.

Well I tried to bleed the clutch just now and took it out for a spin and as soon as it heats up it darn near locks up. Won't go in, or out of the gears, thought I was gonna be found on road dead, but limped it home in second. Now I guess I'll know something more when I drain out the fluid and run it through a coffee filter. I'm calling Tremec again, not sure if it will help, but I'm curious. I just can't believe that I could roast a good tranny that quick.

I'm beginning to wonder about the "guy at Tremec" myself, but jeez, they're supposed to be the experts, at least I would hope.

What do you mean by this? You didn't sieze it up if you had 4 quarts, no leaks, and were under 140mph.

Won't go in, or out of the gears,
This is clutch release. If you're on level ground in 1st, clutch pedal to the floor and the car moves, your clutch isn't releasing.

Yes, do the coffee filter.

And Mobil 1 has no gains for the T56. Run cheap Dexron 3.

I'll try the first gear with the clutch to the floor and see what happens. Do you think me changing the fluid back to cheap ATF will fix it? I am planning on draining it today and seeing what I find. We bled about 3 ozs of fluid from the clutch with a Mity Vac and the Tick SPEEDbleeder line with the check valve. I'm running an LS7 clutch and I'm not sure which throwout bearing was put in there, I"m guessing a GM one. I'm also going to check the bellhousing bolts
