Default Advise from you guys would be great on choosing a trans

Dilemma after dilemma when choosing parts for a race car is usually something we all go through. Here is mine.....

I have a t56 out of my 02 ws6 but I know it won't hold power after my build is done. Do I send it to tick and get a level 3 viperized t56?

Buy a used very low mile level 3 I found for about 2k?

Or buy a magnum t56? And what's needed to fit it in the ws6?

Thanks

your planned power level will likely influence which is the best choice.

There is no reason you can't get the T56 to live at that power level and more. I would recommend giving a couple sponsors a call and seeing what they said. Personally my first calls would be to RPM Transmission and Tick.

Didn't want to risk it. I've read they are good for 500hp and torque

he was saying a t56 can be easily built to take that. although at 800hp a magnum will shift a lot smoother. there is no magnum that works out of the box in an fbody. however many sponsors offer t56 magnum conversions rpm and tick included the price is around 4k and they will drop right in

In stock form the 500hp/500tq may be the limit but if you build the T56 using the correct parts there is no reason it won't handle 700-800 horsepower reliably. Like I said give the RPM Transmission or Tick a call and they can go over the different options for you.

give rpm a call. a built t56 with a pump can handle that kind of power only issue is I don't think anyone can get viper mainshafts right now. you may have to go with a magnum.

If you're starting with nothing, going straight to a Magnum makes a lot of sense. It's stronger and better in every respect, and parts more readily available.

That said, I used a totally stock T56 for ages, ran down to 10 flat at 149mph at 3600lbs with it.
I still keep it as a spare in case I have problems with the "uprated" box I have now....and the spare has been used a couple of times over the years because of it ! LOL

IMO run with the stock T56 and save up for a Magnum or Tranzilla. You might be surprised how well the T56 lasts.

T56 can survive when treated properly.

Treating ANY transmission poorly WILL BREAK IT.

Fwiw, my T56 was rebuilt to hold 750whp at full weight. Shifts and drives better than when I bought the car, all synchros in place.

*UPDATE* I went ahead and just took my t56 to get a viperized build.. I didn't want to go through the hassle of making the tr6060 fit the fbody.. thanks for all the advise. sorry for the very late post.. btw I love how the tranny feels, it shifts like stock but I know it can hold that power
