Default What clutch is everyone using?

Its time to replace the clutch on my 02 z28 and was wondering what everyone is using or recommend.

My 02 is a bolt on car making around 350whp at this time. Hope to start building a 370ci out of a 6.0 and hope to make around 500whp with the setup.

I have looked at the Rps Street Twin Full Clutch Kit and I like what I see on paper but would like to see what everyone recommends and uses.

Thanks
James

I run a Monster Stage 3 with the Tick hydraulics, and I love it. Been running that setup for a little over a year now, and it's performed flawlessly for me.

Mantic ER2 single, break in period is kind of long, but it's perfect now.

McLeod rxt. Has laughed at everything I've thrown at it so far....which is a lot! Probably pushing 1000 at the tires at over 3700lbs.

I'm glad I went with the Stage 3. I'm not close to 700 rwhp (yet), but I didn't want to have to upgrade the clutch again once the time comes.

I know most guys on here hate them, but I've always been happy with my Spec clutches. Car had a 2+ in it when I got it back in 07'. When it finally went out I went with a 3. Blew the engine and while it was out I traded the 3 in on a 3+. That's definitely my favorite single disc clutch. Super smooth engagement, light pedal and held up to some major slipping to get off the line on radials. Over powered it with my 404 and D1 so I pulled it and it looked damn good still. Just couldn't hold the power I guess. Sold it and bought a stage 5. Now that thing sucked ***** to drive on the street or at the track with radials. On/off switch and squeeled like hell.

Now with this last setup I started with a used stage 3 I got from a buddy. And I had ran it for a few thousand miles just street driving and racing. No track outings with it until I got it in this new setup. I was leaving with 3.50 gears and 28's on motor and had to ride the hell out of it to get any kind of 60ft. Started getting lazy on the release. But still shifted great. Then I hit it with 150 shot and it really didn't like it lol. Held up enough to get 110mph trap in the 1/8th tho.

Now I just put in a McLeod RXT. No track outings yet. But is holding just fine on the street on motor. Haven't sprayed it yet. But it has the lightest pedal of any clutch I've ever ran. Engages like the spec 3+ and hardly any chatter. Excited to try it at the track on spray.

I drove a GT500 with an RXT, even with a clutch cable, it was lighter than my Tick/Mantic/Monster combo. It drove Perfectly, NO chatter, even in a 3900 pound car that makes 500 RWTQ at 3000 rpm's. I'm a believer in them.

many diff options of monster clutches out there that would fit your needs. their lt1-s would be a badass option for you or a single disk from them will do the job too. either way you cant beat their product and customer service

Monster Stage 3 Over here as well with Tick Master cylinder, pretty hard to beat that combo.

Thanks everyone for the comments and help. Think I am going to try the monster lt1-s.

What are you thoughts on using the clutch setup with a stock MC?

James, it looks like even though a twin disc is overkill for your car, that is what you are looking for.

For anything under 550 HP I recommend the following

http://www.coloradospeed.com/flywhee...2-p-38031.html

Anything over. Go with something that been in the LS market for a while and needs no "proving" to anyone

http://www.coloradospeed.com/flywhee...gt-p-7061.html

and for a little more power holding for those nitrous spurts

http://www.coloradospeed.com/flywhee...gt-p-7384.html

On your setup you will want the steel billet flywheel

http://www.coloradospeed.com/flywhee...ls-p-6543.html

And with these setups, the stock MC will work fine. You do not need an adjustable master cylinder.

Anyone, anyone here will tell you the McLeod are tried and proven clutches and you do not have to be a guinea pig to test these, they are not new to the market.

Thank you.

I love my rst it drives better than any single disk clutch rated at the same power and has a very light pedal even with the tick mc. i'm swapping it out soon but that has nothing to do with the clutch, i'm just looking to go to a lighter setup

Great to hear!!!

All of our clutches are designed to work with stock hydraulics.

As far as aftermarket masters go, the Tick master is a great unit. Just keep in mind that it will increase the pedal stiffness, and shrink the engagement window.

Give us a shout if you have any questions.(817-750-2000)
