Default GTO Transmission compared to Camaro T56

I have a 2000 model Camaro T56 in a 67 Nova and was wanting to know if a 2005 GTO T56 will fit as a replacement?

Thanks

The GTO got the C5Z teams which has more aggressive gearing. I believe everything else is the same.

The gto t56's are the mn12 version with triple cone synchronizers. Better trans than what you have. 1st gear is a little short but imo good ratios in general.

I would like to add to this. The GTO ratios suck unless you have a portly car and need the extra gearing. 1st gear is too deep and you barely spend anytime in it at all. While the triple synchros do shift better.... the rest of the gearing is not all that great IMO.

If you are making over 450rwhp in a little Nova you probably don't want that GTO gearing.....

Sell that trans and buy a T56 Magnum if it is in the budget $3100 without bellhousing. Great gearing, waaaaay smoother shifting than the GTO and lightyears better than the older T56's, rated at more HP, close ratio 5speed basically with a .63 6th gear. The 2.66/TUET11009 version is the ticket!

I run the Magnum in my cars and it takes the abuse.... shifts great... in 100% stock form.

Are all the connectors on the transmissions the same as far as plugging everything right back in after the swap?

Ahh...so that's why the put that kind of gearing in the c5z over the base c5...because of the extra weight of that model.

Makes sense now.

You cant say universally gearing sucks, without knowing the entire application. car, weight, power, diff, tyre and of course usage.

Figure all that out then make a decision, but the Magnums are great value, maybe a little less when you convert them to F-Body/GTO style fitment. But still good value if their ratio options suit.

The Tranzilla stuff is another option, again with more ration choices, although they're mostly tighter packed gears so may not suit all.

Well all went smooth. Swapped the bell housings and shifter plates along with the little cup inside the shifter connection. Gearing a little lower but my Nova has a stock LS1 with headers and cold air intake. It's more pro touring than street rod so I think this transmission is gonna be perfect. Thanks for the help.

Don't care much for the more RPM's in 6th though.

Nice!
Tell him to get rid of hood springs and the hood will follow the fender much better. All of them come up along the fender and looks like c@#p.
