This is a little write up on how I modified my reverse lockout solenoid to get rid of the "solenoid" part for floor pan clearance on my LS powered 72 A-body wagon...

I wanted the extra clearance of having the solenoid gone, but still wanted the piece of mind of having spring pressure on the detent to prevent reverse activation on spirited 5th gear shifts...

 

So im guessing the spring inside the mechanism you cut in 1/2 to get your spring pressure or resistance to engage or slip into reverse?

 

I just used a ball end hammer and gently massaged the tunnel to accommodate the RLO. With carpet and console in place...you don't see it

 

Yep, been using it for awhile, and it works great.

 

Does this mod make it not difficult to get into reverse? I pulled mine completely out, it’s a real bitch getting into reverse gear.

 

Mine, after this mod, goes into reverse like butter, real nice

 

interesting, I pulled mine out completely, is now a big pain to get into reverse!
