Default Good T56 rebuild kits?

I have a 98 Z28 with a 6.0 LQ9 the motor is a boost build but it’s not boosted yet. Car currently makes 400rwhp buh is soon to be making 600+ hopefully. My T56 is CLAPPED 2nd and 3rd grind pretty bad and reverse is becoming increasingly difficult to get in and out.

My queston is, what are some good quality T56 rebuild kits that’ll take banging gears with 6-700rwhp? I’ve been looking at the tick performance kits are there other good contenders? I’m from south central Wisconsin, (if anyone is from around here) are there any good shops in the area that build strong T56s?

Thanks.

holy cow! Just looked at their pricing $4200 for the trans I’d need and I don’t even know if that’s including shipping! I was hoping for more in the $2000 ballpark for my trans rebuild I know tick kits are only like $800 plus I’d have to pay for installation. There must be a cheaper way to get 700ft lb capable trans

….you often get what you pay for.

D&D sells just parts, does rebuilds, "builds" T56 for more power or sells new ones

cheaper parts kits are often "off shore" parts...

You have 2 sources...contact both and discusses your needs with them and make a decision.

Between the two I would pick D&D hands down, period, no ?

Please click on the Vendor directory at the top of your page and filter for Manual Transmissions. Several of our sponsors offer rebuild packages for the power ranges you are producing, near the price point you are looking for.

Honestly if I had to do it over again, I'd have pony'd up for a t56 magnum instead of rebuilding my stocker. I have been happy with my "level 2" rebuild for a few years and a few thousand miles though.

Thanks for the advice everyone but I think I’m gonna send my trans to tick performance and have it rebuilt with their 750ft lb viperized kit. With all the options I want it’ll cost $3200 but that’s including shipping and everything. I just figure I should build it big now so when I have power later I’m not screwed and having to rebuild again.

I'd find $4200 hard to believe to rebuild your, or indeed any T56 when a fully built brand new F-Magnum is cheaper than that

All you need for that power is a basic rebuild assuming major parts are ok.

I sincerely doubt a basic rebuild will handle 600-700+ ft lbs of torque reliably....

And what parts in their expensive rebuild make those exact same OEM gears and parts any stronger to make them hold any power ?

None....a standard T56 is a very strong box and most will handle that without any real concerns

But when a new Magnum is cheaper than whatever you're pricing, it would be mental to even consider the T56 rebuild route at the price you stated.

1st of all what exactly is a “magnum” and if it’s better than a viperized rebuilt t56 where do I get one for less than $3200?

I'll go ahead and google it for you.

http://www.tremec.com/menu/magnum/

And I did not say less than $3200, you mentioned a price of $4200 earlier. I said a converted F-Magnum is less than that

But a generic Magnum is around $3200, but not a drop in replacement for an FBody type T56.

These are though, although their price has went up a $200 recently.

http://www.ddperformance.com/custom-...ms-f-body-gto/

Tick, RPM etc all offer similar F converted Magnums and all sorts of other specs

As much as I want to defend spending about as much as you did on my t56 rebuild the magnum is a better trans.

also the DD performance page is where I found the $4200 trans initially (4200 is after tax if you add to cart).

No, a TR6060 is a TR6060, OEM fitments.

A Magnum is a Magnum with various fitment option.

There may be similar internals but no they are not the same

$3200 to rebuild your own old used unit, re-using the same old used gears.....for $3200

Vs a brand new Magnum, which already has better parts than they're trying to upgrade the T56 to, Magnum with stronger gears, better synchros etc...for $4000 and you get to either keep your old T56 as a spare or sell it on ?

IMO it really doesnt make a lot of sense
