ls1 noob with trans problems
I just picked up a 98 z28, was an A4 car, but the previous owner just swapped it over to an M6. I'm having problems with it staying in 2nd gear, if you are just shifting it slow, it will pop right back out of second unless you hit it just perfect. I figure its most likely a bent fork in the trans, which i can deal with, but now i'm not so sure.
On a 40~ mile trip i just took, i notice after cruising along in 6th for a few miles, and then trying to downshift into any gear, i get a soft pedal, and sometimes, a low pedal as well. When this happens the trans won't let me shift into 5th, i have to go to 4th. Sometimes i'm able to leave the trans in nuetral and "pump up" the clutch, and it will let me into 5th.
To me this seems like a hydralics problem, maybe the cyl needs to be bled?
I've read a bit on here about the drill mod to the slave cylinder, but it seems like it only really needs to be done with cars that have high pressure clutch assembly's. I have a z06 clutch and pressure plate in it, so i'm not sure if this would apply to me or not.
What do you guys think?
Eric

sounds to me like clutch.
every time i've had a clutch die on me it would do almost all of what you are describing.
your theory on air in the line also holds water. good idea to try bleeding it real well before anything else.
