Default T56 Modification Expertise Needed

Greetings all,

I recently acquired a 2007 Z06 T56 (MM6) and need to perform a few mods to make it suitable for my application. My final goal is to bolt a 5.3LVortec to the aforementioned T56 and finally bolt it to a 27 spline transfer case. This means I need to relocate the shifter to the CAGS solenoid location (swapping the blanked shift socket and rail) and swap the main shaft for a shorter 27 spline one.

I found a post on another forum where someone did a similar operation but swapped the mid plate and tail shaft housing for FBody ones in the process.https://www.pro-touring.com/threads/...to-a-Fbody-one

My question is, is that necessary to make the 27 Spline GTO mainshaft and new shift rail work? Are there any other glaring problems I’m missing?

I only ask because I’d prefer not to spend an extra $300 on a new mid plate if possible and because I need to retain the corvette tail shaft housing but gain a shorter and 27 spline output.

I know this is a really oddball build and I appreciate any technical advice/experience anyone can provide.

Lots of knowledge in the thread that guy followed.

Your GTO main shaft doesn't have seal surfaces for the C6 output seals, so you will have to get creative there. Or stick with the C6 27 spline output.

also, be sure the mainshaft and the first gear match, if it is the counter bored version with upgraded lock.

Rockland Standard Gear has done T-case stuff and is worth a call. Lots of good stuff out there that "isn't listed on the website" for the hipster generation.

Make sure your crank snout is deep enough, see below
