Default Should there be oil here?

Decided to fit a quick shifter. I know there was an oil leak on the transmission from when the vehicle was up on a high lift.

Removing the old shifter today I can see there is oil here and a shot gasket. Should there be oil here normally? This is definitely where the leak was coming from while under the vehicle.

Yes, fluid does make its way into the shifter housing. It's also where I've refilled the tranny when doing fluid swaps.

I've had shifters that leaked up through the shifter in the past.

One other thing I noticed is that your shifter cup bushing looks damaged. If you still have the shifter out, I'd consider swapping that out for a bronze one.
