No Worries. I tell my passengers to go easy on the wires with their feet.

Just learned that there are two different gear ratio types for BMW DCTs.

This is the non M3 one:
Gear DCT Ratio
1 4.78
2 2.933
3 2.153
4 1.678
5 1.39
6 1.203
7 1

Yes, I already said there are a couple of different boxes/ratio sets.

Still no info as to whether one is better than the other, or stronger than the other though.

Seems as if the S65{E92 V8} has the 1:1 7th whilst the F80 M4 has 6th and 7th as overdrive gears with 5th speed is 1:1.
Emailed the company in the UK about the DCT/Ls adapter; 690pounds plus shipping. V8 in stock.

Right, thanks. I hear they are equally strong. There are different bolt patterns for the V8 and V6 ones I believe.

That's like twice the cost of the transmission. Does that include the driveshaft/flex plate to DCT spline adapter?

Not too unreasonable..wonder does that also cover the flywheel, which is an essential part ?

IMO strength of the two cannot be the same.

Undoubtedly overdriven gears will be weaker. So for top speed work, the 1:1 top will be stronger...IF there are no gears invovled, as most 1:1's are.

Of course a 1:1 top would then require either very large tyres, or a very tall diff ratio.

I bought the BMW V8 version of the DCT. I think it will be a better fit for the starter. The final gear is 1:1 on the V8 version, so a rear end gear ratio change is in my future.

Another day or two in quarantine and I'll pull it out of the trunk.

Probably going to with DKGEcu for a controller for now. It will require yanking the current controller and hard wiring it in.

I'm going to ditch the heat exchanger and run lines direct to my existing trans cooler.

How much did that adapter kit drain your pocket?

Really interested in what you're doing here. Thanks for sharing!
Do you know the relative size compared to a T56 transmission?

It's 880 US plus shipping and any import duties.

Not yet. I know it's about 3 inches shorter than my 4l80e.

If you look at the pictures I posted already, the BMW box actually looks fairly small overall, especially considering what's inside.

That looks like a nice adapter kit.

Fascinating project, thanks for letting us follow along.

It's s shame about the integrated bellhousing because I want one in my Corvette too. (C5 here)

The Samsonas boxes above have straight-cut gears, which I suspect would get old fast in a street car.

Unless the trans is solid mounted, the straight cut gears arent so bad. It'd be the dog mechanism for shifting/sequential operation that would do my head in.
I've used a couple in Subarus, and with normal mounts they're quite fine. With solid mounts and straight cut drop gears....it is utterly horrific

I'm sure that for some suitable machinist, removing the bellhousing would be very easy. Might take a little more work to adapt the tail section to the Vette diff though. But all very doable.

I always love this video when the bellhousing topic comes up !

They have the ECU code already done to run an engine and BMW DCT with a Syvecs ECU.
