Default 6 Speed Transmission Issues

I have a 2000 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 convertible with the 6 speed manual transmission that I purchase brand new. It now has 255K miles and started having transmission problems. The repair shop has indicate the splines on the input shaft are shot and the whole transmission needs to be replaced.

Can anyone make some recommendations for the best aftermarket 6-speed transmission?

The shaft in your transmission can be replaced by a rebuilder. Where do you live?

Your old transmission (even if you don't rebuild the exact one) is worth a lot of money. You could swap it for another rebuilt T56. If your first one lasted 250K miles - that's not bad.

There are lots of aftermarket upgrades to the T56, also. If you check out our sponsors in the Vendor Directory link at the top of the page (sort by transmissions), you'll find many options.

Tremec Magnum F T56 seems the be the main, if not only option. The output spline is different than factory.

"The best" is rather open ended...and might cost $20k ?

But if you just need a direct replacement for what you have, the Tremec Magnum F would make the most sense.
