Default What is this stuff I just pulled out of my bellhousing...? (Pics inside!)

While changing my transmission (t56) fluid, I noticed some fuzzy stuff hanging out of the small slot in the bottom of the bellhousing. Upon further inspection, there was a big wad of it hanging out of the hole further up on the passenger side of the bellhousing. The picture below is that wad of mystery fuzz. Is this exploded clutch material? Did a mouse find its way in there and become mush? Could this be (one reason) why my clutch isn’t fully disengaging? I’m concerned lol.

edit: Only had the car for a week. No idea what clutch is in it, only know that it has been replaced at some time. Clutch doesn’t slip, but car grinds in third at high rpm’s. I have jacked up the rear and confirmed that it is, in fact, not disengaging properly.

That looks like stuff a mouse dragged in there. No clutch materials I’ve seen would ever look like that.

I took delivery of my used TA many years ago, from a private seller, who swears they took the car to the dealer, got it fully serviced and checked out before I bought it. Only to find, when I arrived, RIGHT ON TOP of the intake manifold was a huge pile of mouse-house debris. Literally unmistakable, not hiding way back. So 3 handfuls later and I feel safe to drive home with this car 11 hours and it wouldn't catch fire.
