Default Tilton ST-246 Clutch

I just got my Tilton clutch in, and wanted to share some pictures:

This is going in my 1999 Camaro, 408 with a Huron Speed V3 Turbo kit, and T56 Magnum F.

I was looking at the McLeod RST/RXT, the Monster S and SK Series, the Summit Racing Twin Disk, and this one. I ended up picking this one because I liked that the pressure plate wasn't stamped steel. I went with the Organic disks because it was still a sprung hub, and has a torque rating above the T56 Magnum's rating. The car will be mostly for cruising, but I plan to drive it back and forth to work once in a while, so I'm trying to keep that power streetable.

I've been eyeing that clutch. I like it for the same reasons you stated (pressure place isn't stamped and the hub is sprung). I have the Monster LT1-S and it performs but I do wish it had a sprung hub. One thing I do like more about the LT1-S is the 2-1/2" long spline engagement on the hub. Let us know how you like it once you put a few miles on it.

In my '66 Chevelle I replaced a McLeod RXT with a Tilton ST-246 between my LSA and Magnum. Surprisingly, the pedal effort is higher with the ST-246 but I really appreciate the damping from the sprung hub on the Tilton vs. the McLeod's solid hubs. It fit perfectly and looks higher quality than the RXT. After a couple of thousand miles, I really like it!

I have that clutch and throwout bearing on my TKX absolutely a great clutch. Zero chatter and it’s easy to slip into full engagement.

@Onbusy How are you liking this clutch so far? I'm considering it since Tick has a pretty sweet package deal for it and all the hydraulics.

Unfortunately I have not gotten the car back together yet. Engine, trans, and front suspension are in, but nothing is hooked up/plumbed yet. Still need to do the entire fuel system, and the turbo system after the manifolds. Hopefully with the Spring weather, I will get it to a place where I can fire it up and drive it around, even if it's not 100% complete.

Sounds like my problem, lol. I don't have the funds to buy everything I need all at once, and I don't have the time to do a ton of work either. I think I'm going to try the clutch kit anyway, given that it replaces all factory components with aftermarket pieces and I need to replace my hydraulics anyway. Thanks for the reply!

I’ve ran mine for about 1200 miles absolutely perfect. Easy to slip, no noise, shifting the TKX at 6800 rpm’s smooth as silk, I did line the bell housing nearly perfect though. Flywheel runout was nearly perfect also.

Awesome! Seems like it'll be a good clutch for what I'm doing.
