Default Pilot bearing

I purchased a 2000 WS6 Trans Am about a year and a half ago. Recently decided to swap to a T56 Magnum, Monster Twin Disc clutch and a change the rear main seal while I’m at it. The clutch came with two pilot bearings, which do I use? Everything online states the smaller one. I tried to get pictures of the damaged pilot bearing… or lack of… How the heck am I going to get this out?

There is a pilot bearing puller fitting that you can put on a slide hammer.

As far as which one to use, it should be pretty easy to figure out: the one that matches the outside diameter of the trans input shaft, and the inside diameter of the crank.

I didn't even know that there were two sizes of pilot bearing for these engines.

The larger pilot goes into the big recessed area in front of (or behind it, depending on how you look at it) your current pilot bearing. The larger bearing, in turn will be almost a half inch closer to the transmission. Do not use the larger one. Use the smaller one, that goes where your current torn up one is. The input shaft on the t56 and the t56 magnum are both set up for the smaller one. I’m moving this down to manual trans forum for more eyes on this. I suppose I could be wrong on this….

Thanks everyone for the information and confirming what I thought was correct!

I do have a bearing puller that I believe should work and I will give it a try.

This is the same information I found! Thank you very much!

Whatever you do to get that pilot bearing out, do not use the bread trick. That doesn't work with the LS1 crank and will cause a major problem.
