Weird Noise Lately my 02 z28 with 19xxx miles on it has had a weird noise.
Whenever I press in the clutch I hear a whining/squealing sound winding down. I've checked and it's not the belts because up front you can't hear it, only from the drivers seat or outside car standing just behind the drivers's side front tire.
It's started doing it more and more and does it in 1st and 2nd gears now when you're just cruising and let off the gas with it in gear.
Any thoughts/suggestions??

When you press in the cluth the noise starts to go away? Is that right. I was going to say the release bearing but if it does it in gear with the clutch engaged I doubt that is it. Does it make the noise in nuetral, car running, clutch engaged? Is it 1 & 2 only, and only while you coast in those gears? Trany input bearing would make it in all gears. If it does it on 1,2,3, but not 4th possible counter shaft bearings. Such a new trany I would not thing bearings.
Is there a bushing or bearing in the end of the crank shaft for the trany input shaft guys? I do not know.
Find out if it does it in any other gear at all.

When I press the clutch in to shift gears it makes the noise.
With the car in 1st or 2nd and letting off the gas but still in gear it makes the noise.
Doesn't do it in nuetral.

I do not know what the problem is. Pushing in the clutch, 1st, and 2nd share no common components that will not affect anything else. 1st and 2nd share most of what 3rd goes through. I really do not believe it could be bearings, but that is the only thing slowing down when you push in the clutch or when coasting.
19K and 2002 is still under warranty isn't it?

anyway I was thinking it was something in the clutch like a throw out bearing??? not very good with that part yet so don't know for sure. I figure I'll have to let something tear up to know what to strengthen

Ok today I paid more attention and it makes the noise in ALL gears when the RPM's are at or above 2000.
It sounds like something whining and slowing down as well.

That is a touchy thing you got going there....Best thing I would say, take it to a shop and have amechanic look at it, and or have it put on a computer(If that will show anything) and see what comes up......
I just had my rear axle completely rebuilt. Had a seal go bad, leaked all lube out, and fried everything inside. It wind when I was driving when I first heard it, I took it directly to a shop. saved me in the long run. I know it's alot of money, but it could have locked up on the freeway and well.....let's say it could have gotten REAL ugly.
But I took care of it as soon as I heard it.
Anyway, replace clucth, and then Tranny or vice versa......Best I can really suggest....Might save you in the future. How? I dont know....But just might...LOL......Hope this helps.
