from reading on here a dealer says he can get everything at discount for around $500, other folks say they have spent $800 on the setup. my question is there a better clutch for the money for a car with around 400rwhp? if no, best clutch for the money?

Depends on what everyone means by "ls-7 setup". When I priced most everything needed to do the job from gmpartsdirect.com, it's around $720 to the door. Those people have good prices but their shipping and handling charges are outrageous, IMO. That included clutch slave cyclinder, pilot bearing, clutch release bearing, pressure plate and disc, and flywheel. I'll probably get the clutch release bearing and pilot bearing locally to save some shipping costs and get the price down a little. I really can't say how great of a clutch it is though. I'm hoping it'll take some dragstrip abuse and still be a great everyday clutch. That seems to be asking a lot though.

From what I have read all the aftermarket clutches have had their success and horror stories. And the average price for an after market setup is $900 flywheel included. I'm sure the LS7 clutch is not indestructible, but for $600 you can have sumthing built to be reliable and feel stock rated at 500hp or so. So far I compiled a list of the parts you need for the swap. The only question I have so far, Is the install straight forward like a reg. stock clutch. And what bout the alignment tool is it included in the clutch, PP package?
anyway heres the parts and prices Ive seen so far.

Ls2 flywheel light weight or would and aluminum FW be the way to go. I would be putting this in my 98 z28. I drag race but drive it often and want to do some SCCA stuff and hope the light weight would kinda bog the car just a little to save my rearend a little longer.

ON the 05 gto will i need the throwout bearing since i only have 5000 miles on my pathetically weak stock clutch? This should make gm alot of extra money.I wish they put the ls7 clutch in from the factory.
