Clutch install... Not my Day!!!
I went to throw on my Spec 3 clutch today, and things went great pulling all the stock stuff off, dropped the tranny down, pulled the clutch, took off the flywheel...couple hours, first timer, piece of cake..
Then My luck changed... 98 SS, so I am changing the hydralics as well... doing the drill mod, and after I got done drilling the master, I was flushing it out, and I must have drilled into the braded hosing somehow cause it leaks...
So I pull the hose off the stocker, gonna just drill it out, and put it on the LS6 Master, half way down the drill bit breaks off inside
So my hands are tied, and their was no way of finishing the install, but I thought I might as well throw the Fly wheel on...I ordered the Spec Steel Fly as well, and it had 6 little hex bolts in the plastic wrap, so I slap on the fly wheel, screw them in, and I notice they are shorter, but I keep going, and I set the Torque wrench to 74lbs, and I start tightening them progressively.... and then I start torqueing down on one of them, after snugging everything up, and SNAP,
So now I have to tap out new threads...
Not my day.

have you tried an ease-out on the broken off bolt? or did it strip out the threads
even though you did get yer *** whooped keep
, it'll come together.
and that first squeal from the tires will make it all worth it....you know it will

It stripped the threads, but only on one bolt, and I dont think it should be tooooo hard fixing it. The bolts in the plastic wrap that were shipped with the fly wheel, upon closer inspection were both shorter, and a not quite as thick.... SOOOOOO the stock flywheel bolts will be reused...
Monkey see monkey do I guess is my only exuse... The 6 bolts were wrapped in the plastic along with the flywheel...

i think your going to find that crankshaft to be made out of some pretty hard f$#@in material lol. if you cant get it yourself, talk to someone from a machine shop, they can probably give you a few pointers.

the clutch does not come with flywheel bolts.. it came with pressure plate bolts.. if you used the black allen bolts to hold the flywheel on no wonder you snapped the head off one. stock flywheel bolts wont ever break at 74 unless your tq wrench is wrong.
if you broke the head off the bolt then there should be no tension on the bolt.. should be able to dig it out by pressing on the edges of it and spinning it around (until the loctite sets) after that an ez out would be optimal. best of luck getting it all straight.

I ran a re thread kit on the hole in the crank, and it was a pretty quick fix...
The bolt I had put in, did'nt break, it just pulled some of the threads in the thread.
The Allen bolts were shrinkwrapped with the Flywheel... So I assumed they were for the flywheel.. They are holding the pressure plate on now though... I just need to put in the Hydraulics, bleed the clutch, and I should be done, hopefully.
I'm looking to buy a new Master unless someone has a fix for me on the braded line?

I wouldn't use those bolts if they've been torqued past spec...given that one broke, I'd say that's the case.
I know you want it back together, but if the bolts have been fatigued they're a ticking time bomb. Get replacements.

Couldn't ya try pushing the broken drill bit out from the opposite end of the hose?
I'd try a metal clothing hanger. Make sure it's straight and debur the end going in so it will not scrape up the inside.
Good luck.

The drill bit snapped off down in the metal, but it's screwed itself into the metel.. Cant really drill through a drill bit either.. = ) I got a new one today, new drill bit, 10 seconds and I was done.

btw...yeah...had the master out 3 times and the clutch out twice.
In my defense...never broke a bit.
