see what im looking for is the best all around shifter. Short throws, positive feeling of gear selection, excelent downshifting abilities, easy shiftness (no struggle), strength, noise, comfort. Just everything for street driven but driven HARD! will experience just about everyhting you can throw at it.

i choose the ripper after driving both. the ripper to me felt very precise/accurate and just fell into place when shifting, especially power shifting. the ripper feels more durable when shifting HARD. my ripper has not been cut and i have had no complaints.

I have a pro 5.0 w/ a stubby lever. for me, i like the stubby look and feel.
kinda like a indy car,,well, an old one anyway. the b&m was too tall for me. but, like
several above have said it's something you need to check out before you spend.
just keep in mind any aftermarket shifter that eliminates the stock shifter iso will transmit more NVH to the driver. unless you are a 80 year old lady, any shifter will be a major improvement. just don't cut the shifter seal!

I bought a B&M Ripper and it sucked it didnt seem much shorter and felt kinda sloppy. I hated the B&M and returned it within a week. The 2-3 shift in the B&M was a shorter throw but felt very sloppy. I got a Pro 5.0 shifter with Lou's short stick and it was way better than the B&M. when shifting from 2-3 it seems like it has a strong spring that almost pulls it to third. My friends that have a B&M or other shifters always try to jump in my car to feel how much smoother the Pro 5.0 is. Just make sure to put thread locker on the bolts for the Short stick.

I myself would have to say that the Pro 5.0 w/ Lou's Short Stick is a very solid peice of machinery. And is great for street racing IMO.

I love my Pro 5.0. I've heard alot of good things about the B&M too. I'd say upgrading from stock, you can't go wrong with either.

just a quick newb shifter question, is there a short shifter available for a ripper? i have heard yes and no? do you have to make it yourself? does this affect anything else that would make this sort of "free" mod foolish and stupid?

if so, who sells them? thanks.

if i do this myself, anyone wanna give me a rundown on how its done? cut the bottom, cut the top, cut the middle? Thanks

i got the 5.0 w/ lou's short stick and my shifter ball comes milimeters from hitting the console in 2nd gear but is fine when the stock hurst **** is on. shifter feels firm and short.

B&M guys, how does the 2-3 feel when racing? Does it feel like you cant miss? I've driven a ripper but just normal driving, nice shifter. Will be driving a 5.0 shortly then will be making a purchase.

stock hurst

Dont cut the shifter seal
You're not talking about the rubber boot that goes over it right? The projecttransam.com write up cuts that for the pro 5.0.

like others I went from stock to B&M not knowing what the pro5.0 is like but if your asking me if like the B&M yes vary much shift smooth and feels great and I would not cut it down, and if I have had any problems with it no I have noticed when I'm at the track that it makes a vary slight vibraion noise in 3 when I an giving it the most hell I can and I am positive that this is it vibrating against the over throw stop. and you dont have to instal them because the trany already has them in it. I have a custom ingraved z28 **** 2.25 size I think if you get rid of the leather rapped ball it will feel much better as well. (i am to lasy to take the console apart to take the stops out or move it back a little more and a, little extra safty never hurt anyone anyway)

Pro5.0 w/a stock lss (straight stick), offset about 1.5 inches left via tubing cut as a spacer and a larger nut.

Really cut down on the tranny noise, and centers the shift ****.

I have zero regrets on purchasing it. The few people that have driven my car really liked the feel of the shifter.

I just went back to my old Ripper after using a Pro 5.0 for ~6 months, and I'm really happy. The Ripper is a LOT smoother, but still feels very solid. The only thing I miss is the short stick, so I'll probably have to cut it down some.
