Default confused

Well, I will be needing a new clutch in the next few thousand miles and I've been looking into it a lot the past week. I read a lot of info on here but there are still one or two things I am confused about.

What's up with the 'updating' of the master/slave cylinders? I hear everyone talking about it, but I can't seem to find a reason why.

Also, in light of all these horror stories about the spec stage 3's, I'm taking a second look at things. How is the z06 package (clutch PP and flywheel)? Can it compare to a good spec stage 3 with a stock LS1 flywheel at all? What kid of clutch can i get for under $500 (for parts) thats better than stock?

All I want to do is upgrade my clutch. I wanted to get something at least a LITTLE better than a stock one since down the line I will be doing a few bolt-on mods. I will do the drill mod while I'm at it of course. What do you guys think?

I looked at Spec Stage 1 clutches this morning. Is it worth it to get this clutch? Its rated at 400hp...I don't know if it's worth saving the money by gettign a stage one (its $289) whereas a stage 3 is $389.

I can't tell you about the Spec clutches, but I can recommend the Z06 clutch, mine has held up great on the street and at the track.

I have heard nothing but good things about Spec Clutches. As far as I know, my WS6 came stock with the Z06 clutch (also referred to as ls6 clutch). I have 33K miles on the car and just started modding it. The clutch slipped the first time I tried to lauch and it was stock then! Maybe the retard that had the car before me shouldn't have had it. Definetely get a SPEC though!!

2000 and older cylinders are more restrictive, and people's clutches have stuck to the floor because of it. If you don't want to buy a 01-02 cylinder just do the drill mod. It's free too!!

Refer to Step 16

This will prevent problems doing this mod...

Good luck

Upgrade the hydros and look at a stage 2 clutch at least. If you do any modding the stage 1 will limit you very fast. My Spec 3 has survived a lot of track abuse with ET Streets. I will be replacing it with another SPEC clutch this winter. I will also replace all of the hydros again while I am in there.

You need to resurface the flywheel. If you skip this you may as well just throw the new clutch in the garbage and save the install time. Resurfacing is what will start to make the new clutch live a long happy life.
