Most folks are probably worrying more about this than need be. Just make sure the clutch parts are very clean when installed, and break the clutch in with 500 miles minimum of stop and go driving. If the clutch still chatters at all, go for another 500 miles of stop and go.

At least then you have done your best to break the clutch in...if it still fails...?
SPEC should provide installation and break-in directions with their kits to avoid any confusion in the future...they should also stop telling people that flywheel resurfacing isn't necessary, because it most certainly is.

There is no way my foot can stay out of it for up to 1000 miles of city driving, 1000 mile break in for a clutch is ridiculous look for something else , unfortuantely I keep reading about problems with almost every clutch, which sucks cause mine is just about toast!!!!

That was wise.

According to my mechanic friend, my flywheel was unblemished. The 11,000 miles on it were actually mostly easy miles, I only took it to the track twice and ran 6 total passes on it.

So I MAY have gotten away with it...

True, and you also never hear about how unqualified the guy who installed it was.

I tend to believe some percentage of the "defects" people hit with clutches are related to installer error.

My car is an 02 so it doesnt need updated hydraulics. I have also never had a problem with the clutch sticking to the floor so the drill mod hasnt been done and isnt an issue either.

I really think the problem comes from not doing the job right in most cases. When modding these cars I try to replace every maintenance item possible when it is torn down.

For clutches I see no reason (except cost) to not replace the Master and Slave while the transmission is out. Speaking to the issue of cost, was it worth it to not do it now if you have to go back and do it later? Just a few thoughts, and for what its worth my installer had done several of the exact brand of clutch I bought. Experience is huge.

yeah i just realized that when i looked at the sig. updateing the master cylinder and doing the drill mod is my suggestion when you decide to pull it apart again.

My 95 Z28 I had for about 6 months had an issue with the new Spec stage 3 with billet flywheel. It would chatter, I figured it was because it was metallic, but part of the clutch disc itself grenaded, somehow popped the rivets/screws out of the 2-piece aluminum flywheel and shifted it sideways, loaded the input shaft and destroyed 5th and 6th gear in the transmission. Every synchro was done, sliders were shot, shift forks bent, it cost $1800 to fix, should've gotten a bulletproof. Since then, I've sold that heap, and have my 99 TA now, 2nd gear is shot in this car, can't go from 6 to 5 now, but it's got 87k miles on the stock clutch and hydros.
