Default How much does it cost to beef up a T56?

What are the parts needed? And how much should it cost to beef a T56 tranny?

Why? Whats broken? Unless you already have symptoms showing up, just run the t56 till it dies. Many people run a lot of power through the t56 with out incident.

Im having a hard time shifting into third gear now. I can't power shift anymore and i have to lift fully between 2nd to 3rd gear shifts which is killing me. If i try to shift fast like before i cant find 3rd gear. I really dont know what could be the problem? Im going to change the clutch since its slipping. So i was wondering what would it take to make my tranny smooth as before.

There's really only one way to find out. Change the clutch and do the drill mod if you havnt already. I wouldnt be surprised if your tranny is good to go. Although I cant really say that there isnt something messed up in there either. I just figure, why spend money before it breaks.

Then again, if it breaks your going to spend the money anyways right? Why not do it when you can plan it out and schedule it... instead of being out a car in mid summer becuase it blows up on ya?

All opinion i guess. If i was upgrading the trans i would just do it when i could and not wait. But you are not wrong... you could also wait because it should just fine and there may be nothing wrong with it.

LSs1Power - Maybe the 3/4 shift fork is bent... tends to happen a lot. Try putting in a steel one and your problems may go away. Clutch could be problem to but your already chaning that. If you don't want to go with a full blown rebuild, start out with the cheap things first and hopefully one of them fixes the problem. Unless you can take it apart yourself and find out.

I dont think its the clutch causing this problem. I had the same problem when the SPEC 3 was in the tranny. I know what a blown clutch feels like, but this problem doesnt feel like a clutch problem at all. I was thinking about the 3/4 forks, but i read that there is no way to bend it. So what else could it be. The only way i can get the car in third is to wait until the tranny rest with no load on it. If i floor it and try to shift fast 3rd gear wont be there until the tranny rest back.
My point was since im taking the clutch out we can do the rebuild at the same time... I was just wondering what would i need to buy to make it a strong smooth tranny.

Look into a master rebuild kit from "thegearbox" on ebay. Alot of people have had good results using his t-56 rebuild kits. I would also get the steel shift forks.

How comparable is thegearbox to D&D performance? I've never heard of them.

What I'm asking is how does it compare to the DIY parts from D&D, ie the $100 upgrade kits, which are varying depending on what parts you want.

Mine did'nt. It only lasted two season and I only raced it maybe 10 times in that span. If you look at my sig I dont have a lot of power only a bottle. I broke 2nd gear, I have everyother gear except for second and I can drive it but when I go to 2nd it doesnt do anything unless I pull it into gear then it just grinds.

I would say go for a full rebuild and replace what ever needs to be. Mine sounded like yours, just not as bad. I had to have a lot of stuff replaced. I ended up buying a used one that is suppose to be raced preped. I am going to take mine down to liberty and have it proshifted and then have a spare.

Back in July 03 it cost me only $1700 bucks for the Speed Inc street t-56 rebuild and then whatever the spec 3i clutch & new hydralics w/ billit flywheel costed. didnt get new shifter though! Pretty sure i payed less than $3700 bucks, like around $2700 maybe but then again that was a year and a half ago. Seems maybe prices went up or ur just getting more done than i did. Anyway, its a great tranny im sure you'll love it!!!
