sadly the insalluniversity writeup is hard to do since i'm not pulling the master.. how do I get at the line if I'm not pulling the master out? I really dont wanna do that.. I'll wait if I have to till I get an adjustable and do it all at once.

I'm glad to hear that you're loving your Powergrip HD. We just put one in our '99 Corvette with a D1SC ProCharger. We're looking for 650-700 RWHP tuned in, so we'll keep everyone posted. All of Ram's clutch systems are 110% quality. This is why we chose to become a stocking dealer for them.

Let us know how it does once it's broken in and at the track!

Trevor, which Ram clutch would be best for my '99 SS street car with T56, 4.11, NOS cam and 150 wet shot. Haven't dyno'd, but must have close to 500 fwhp.

I would expect you to be VERY close to 500 FWHP, if not right at it. I think the Powergrip would last for a while, but your best bet would certainly be the Powergrip HD. It will give you some added room power-wise, and you won't have to second guess if it will stand up to the power you're making. I also keep the Powergrip HD clutches in stock.

Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thanks!

I ordered the HD from Trevor this week and will report results in a few weeks. This will be my 4th clutch for my SS, and I hope it's the last. Previous clutches were stock, Spec 2 and SLP, which was working fine until I upped the juice.

I think you'll love the Powergrip HD. It has a LOT more holding capacity than any of the other clutches you've run in your car so far!

Let me know if you have any questions once you get it.

I just hope it holds and doesn't feel like a Spec clutch.

What adj. master cylinder should i get.. and I'll do the drill mod while i'm in there.

I'm glad to hear that the clutch is working well for you! Ram's adjustable master cylinder will work just fine. I have them in stock and ready to ship for $165 + shipping, and we price-match. We're running the Powergrip HD with Ram's billet steel flywheel and adjustable master in our '99 Corvette with a 347 cid and D1SC ProCharger that puts down 630 RWHP and 565 RWTQ, and it has held 100% with no problems at all. Trust me when I say that it sees boost on a daily basis.

Feel free to give me a call or shoot me an e-mail if you have any questions or concerns.

You better get an adjustable MC soon. If not you will ruin your new clutch. It will overheat and could come apart or just start slipping. Trust me...I know...These sintered iron clutches are very good but no clutch can take the heat buildup from slippage...which is essentially what your getting now when you're sitting still with the clutch pedal pushed in and when shifting.

Trevor...is there a pic of that Ram adjustable MC on your website? I've been running McCleod stuff for a long time but I may switch....

The RAM Adj Master is a GM Master that has been made adjustable. I am not sure if there are any internal modifications.

Thanks Squintz.

Evil98: I use the McCleod adjustable MC. I have been using it for years. In fact that is me doing the all the clutch mechanical stuff(drill mod etc) in those photos on InstallUniversity. My car is not a daily driver. It only has 49K on it since I bought it new in 98.
Some have not had such good luck with them but...they are not and were never intended to be an OEM 100K mile part.

my car is not a daily driver.

has 17k miles on it... its an 02. i've put 5k miles on it in the 4 months I've owned it (including a 4k mile trip).

how hard/long does it take to remove the master cylinder? I know the drill mod is easy wit the master out.

I want to do this car right.. I've jury rigged my share of drag cars etc.. time to build one right (car is like brand new still and I want it to stay that way).

OTher than my B&B and tires.. car looks bone stock, and it'll stay that way

It's really not that bad. Just take your time and be patient. You will almost certainly have an opportunity to get VERY angry. haahahaaaaa... It's all a tight fit under there. The factory U-bolt that holds the MC in is kind of "sprung" in there so may have to tap it out with a hammer, one side at a time, alittle at a time. The new U-bolt with the McCleod MC fits right in. No problems at all.
It will probably take you a 2-3 hours if you do the drill mod and everything. Get it bench bled as much as possible before install also.
Feel free to PM me if you need any assistance.
