well, i took off the console, took off the stick, and i was taking off the rubber boot part that has like 3 screws on it...and that $hit doesnt want to come off. i tried to pry it back, and it still wont come off. it bent alittle...but it still wouldnt pull off. is this common, or does my car just hate me?

10 screws? i only saw 3. it was the thick rubber boot that keeps air and stuff from traveling up into the console area. the last thing you take off before you take off the shifter

Once you get the boot off, then the four 13mm bolts off the shifter, you'll have to pry on the shifter base to get it off. It will be really stuck on there with the RTV from the factory.

Default Shifters?!?

Hey all, I'm new to the Mod. scene with my car and I'm considering intstalling a new shifter. I don't drag and don't plan on it, took me a long time to save up for this car and have no intention of messing it up. However, every once in awhile a little ricer needs to be put in his place. As far as I can tell the stock setup is a pretty short throw already, are there any other reasons I'd want to put in an aftermarket unit and if so what are your suggestions, keeping in mind I'm not loaded, this is my daily, and my mechanical skills are moderate at best. Thanks.

This is my opinion I'm sure someone else has a different theory...
If you have the stock crap (non hurst) you'll improve a lot..
I switched from the factory hurst to a pro 5.0 with the stock stick. Some things I didn't like with the pro 5.0 were the weaker springs compared to the hurst. The pro 5.0 itself feels a lot better shifting and feels very tight. The factory hurst has these rubber isolators that make it feel a bit soft... I'd try to find a car with the shifter and test them out. You could also get an aftermarket Hurst that is supposed to feel better than the factory hurst. I love my pro 50, it feels great shifting, I'm used to the weaker springs and I drive it just fine. I don't really miss gears anymore(heh I'll blame the shifter for my sucky driving ) This is on a stock fbody thats never seen the track.
Hope this helps..
