missing a shift..

how bad is it if i was basically hauling @$$ and missed a gear, causing it to redline? M6 newb my LT1 was an auto... thanks and sorry if its a stupid question. - darren

do you mean you grinded a gear, or you went into the wrong one? you could bend a pushrod if you go into the wrong one and it redlines hard. as long as everyhting is working ok and you dont hear any strange noises, you should be ok. just try not to do it again, the tranny will thank you

no actually it was the 1-2 shift

and my hand slipped off the shifter so it basically just redlined in neutral and bounced off the rev limiter a few times

Not a stupid question and not something that every manual driver has not doene( if they tell the trurth) Hitting the limiter in N is not damaging. Missing a shift = getting1st instead of 3rd/ 3rd instead of 5th ect = and actually letting out the clutch can be devastating to an engine. Not letting out the cluych can still be bad if the speed of the clutch gets too high. Best to not doe any of these things.

You will be fine tapping the rev limiter a few times in neutral. A mechanical overrev however .... 3rd to second on accident will usually throw a rod.
